My attached 2-car garage has become my man-cave. 20' wide, 24' deep. Primary lighting is two ceiling fixtures intended for standard-base bulbs, but not really sufficient for my needs or comfort.

Tried LED flood bulbs which work fairly well, but still lacking.

Commercials and internet come-ons are pushing screw-in replacements with multiple LEDs in adjustable "wings", supposedly capable of turning night into day. I am tempted to try.

S&W Brain Forum, I need some input. Miracle or scam? Other options? Suggestions? All are welcome.

When we first moved into our house, I scored some overhead flourescent fixtures from a local school that was remodeling. They were trashing the fixtures so I got them for free. A couple years back, I replaced them with Barrina 4ft LED fixtures from Amazon, in 6500k. The difference was amazing for the minimal investment.

Installation is pretty straightforward if you can do basic wiring, and everything is going strong two years later.

I don't know much about the 'screw in' gizmos, but if your garage is a workspace, I highly recommend LED lighting.

I have 5 4ft LED linkable fixtures that look like fluorescent ones in a
24x24 Shop/Storage building. BRIGHT LIGHT!
I screwed adapter into lamp socket that converts it to accept cord plugs.

Linkable = means that you can plug another fixture into an outlet on the fixture that is plugged into the adapter. Multiple fixtures off of one socket.

I have 2 winged LED lights in my 20x24 garage…… all the light you'll ever need. And u can kinda point them where u want. Over a yr and going strong

I have 6 old 4 foot florescent fixtures in my garage. Two years ago, I pulled out all the ballasts and put in LED replacement bulbs. 2/3's quit working within a year, but the manufacturer sent out replacements. Within six months, the remaining bulbs quit, and again, the manufacturer sent out replacement, asking that I send in one of the control boards from within one of the lights, which I did. So far, the replacements are working as they should.

The bulbs are 6000k and really light up the garage. The garage is, IIRC, 24 x 24. They also have the advantage of not being affected by cold temps like the florescent tubes were.

I have a couple of the wing lights. I could use a couple more, which I'll buy pretty soon. I have no complaints about them, but haven't had them too long, so I don't know about longevity. Mine came from Home Depot and cost $20. I don't use them in cold weather because I'm too cold-averse to hang out in the garage in the wintertime, so I have no idea about that aspect.

I hung two of the type that have a 4 foot long hoods from the ceiling with double or triple rows of very small LED bulbs. Plugged them into adapters screwed into the existing light bulb sockets.
The only way to go. Very bright and not very expensive.
Each light/hood assembly came with chains for attaching to the ceiling.

I went a little overboard with mine. I've got two older fluorescents and three of the screw in 8000 lumen three panel LEDs controlled by the wall switch and an additional five 48" Harbor freight 5000 lumen LEDs and two 24" LEDs controlled by a Wifi smart power strip. I added an 8000 lumen 48" above the area where I was doing some engine work on my blazer. Total overkill, but I can really see everything I'm working on with no shadowing.

About 4 years ago, I swapped the 48" fluorescent shop lights out for LED shop lights. They are plugged into the switched ceiling light. The loading area is very bright and no need for a light "inside" the progressive press! A friend of mine saw it and had me install two in his messy 2 car garage (We just wrapped the chain around the truss and screw an adaptor and plug it in.

I'm a firm believer!
