I don't and therefore can't talk from direct experience, but my buddy Ron (I think he's 85 now) got one last summer and it's changed his life. He was unable to walk before - could barely move with a walker. Now he's just flat back in the game: walking, biking, doing stuff around the house. He had a good doc and a good hospital. I have no idea if there are several types of these, but it sure worked for Ron.

I know a former cop who has one imbedded in his back. He cannot live without it.
I knew a man years ago who had broken his back in WW 2 crashing a plane in the desert. He had one and said it made a great deal of difference in controlling pain. He was about 80 at the time I knew him
I'm having my second one removed and third one implanted next Friday. I wouldn't go through all that if they didn't help.

Well, thanks! I just sprayed beer all over the screen! I think you should be a judge.
I've had one going on 3 years now. It has helped but hasnt alleviated all the pain, discomfort and neuropathy but I knew that going in. Before I had it implanted, I took a psych eval and had a temporary one for a short trial basis, about a week.
