Finally pulled the trigger and replaced my p365. I've seen a shield 45 at my lgs for $499 for the last couple months. It went on sale for $429 so I decided to snatch it up. Anything weird I should expect to see? Any ammo it just doesn't like? Any recommendations on factory defense loads?

Mine is a few months old and likes anything I feed it. Surprisingly accurate, very reliable pistol.
Read the instructions - takedown is NOT intuitive. Also, don't be shocked by how hard it is to load magazines.

I've had one for a while now and it replaced my Glock 36 which I loved and thought I would never part with. When the Smith came along it had more to offer than the G36 so I sold the Glock

Congratulations. I picked one up last week as a companion to my 1911PD. Getting her to the range next week. Magazines are no challenge after the P365. ��
My 45 Shield replaced my 9mm Shield about a year after they first became available. I've not had any issues with it at all. In fact, it's my preferred carry gun during the warmer months. Otherwise I carry a 4516,........ I just like the heft of a steel gun.
The Shield 45 is a much smoother shooting gun than the 9 in my opinion.

I came across a deal on Winchester RED45 230 grain FP FMJ - my Shield makes tiny groups of large holes with those. No JHP necessary, thank you.

I really like my .45 Shield. I rarely carry it, but its my bedside gun. I keep it loaded with 230gr Winchester Ranger T. But I'd feel just fine with hardball.

I expect you'll be as happy with it as I am with mine. Surprisingly accurate, and surprisingly soft recoil for the caliber and weight.
Excellent choice! I too purchased one recently and am very pleased with everything about it. I've been loading what I have here, 185gr jhp and 200gr fp's with Titegroup, and function, accuracy, ejection all looking great.
FWIW, I did drift my rear sight slightly and now she's hitting dead center.

I'm going to shoot it today. I got some 230gr ball and jhp ammo to run through it. Anybody shot and hotter loads through these? Just +p I mean. I'm not exactly recoil sensitive, but I like my wrists to operate normally.

I own two and won't part with either. Reliable, super accurate, and easy to shoot. Best advice I can give is remember it is a short barreled, polymer, light weight, 45. Match the ammo to the firearm. Mine shoot 185JHPs pushing ~900fps exceptionally well and are very manageable.
Still carrying mine that I got back when they came with a $75 rebate from S&W; $300 out the door. Mine has been very reliable at about 800 rounds, but I found that I had become lazy from shooting full size 1911 pistols. I have to hold the Shield VERY tightly to avoid "limp writing" it, which will lead to malfunctions.
Had one and liked it a bunch. Everything folks said about it here is 100% righte on. But every time I got ready to go out; looked in the safe for a carry gun, I pulled out my CS45 and carried that. Finally figured I didn't really need the Shield, so it went off the the sales block.
I haven't abandoned the Shield 100% however -- have both 9 and .380 EZs packed away in anticipation of loss of hand strength or arthritis if it ever gets to the point where racking the slide becomes a problem.

There's just something about the feel of stainless steel on your hip, that a polymer Striker Fired just can't fill.
Plus, if you run out of ammo you got a brick in your hand.
LOLOf the three Shields have in 9-40-45 I like the 45 the best. Seems to be more accurate than the other 2.

I like the feel of SS too, but my 457 is retired and the Sig Ultra stays put. If for any reason one of my Shield 45s gets confiscated, stolen, damaged, etc, eh no big deal, go get another one. If that happens to my Sig Ultra, every bit of $800+ goes with it.
Do all three function without any failures? Would you have confidence to CC any of the three?
Been thinking about a 40cal because I have the ammo.
Sounds like everyone like their 45cal.

spricks, I have Shields in both 9mm and .40. I have never had any issues with either one and carry either one with confidence. I would like to have a 45 to have a trifecta.

I had a PC 45 shield a while back. I found it shot MUCH better than the 9mm and 40 cal versions that I owned previously. It was easier to control and shot tighter groups. Enjoy it.
