Picked up a Detroit PD S&W M&P 40 from Aimsurplus on a whim because I like former LE guns. The one I received for $320 was in excellent condition and came with the original box, 2 more backstraps and one magazine. It is marked "Detroit PD"on the top of the slide and "DPD1240" on the side of the slide and the barrel. They have spare mags for like $14 as well I never had much interest in the M&P and in fact this if the first one I have held. I didn't care for the look of the gun but it sure does feel good in the hand. I am very happy with the purchase. There are some curious dimples on the underside of the slide that I am unsure of the reason that they are there. Pics to follow.

I bought my "UNISSUED" Detroit PD M&P .40 back in 2018. I paid $299 from BUD'S GUNS. It came with the blue S&W plastic case, (3) magazines, (3) back straps, very bright night sights, lock, paper work, test fired casing, etc.
My son has a 2.0 M&P .40 Compact. I gave him (1) of my magazines for it.
I also own (3) more LE Trade In .40's. (1) Glock G22 and (2) M&P .40's.

I've had very good luck with LEO trade-ins from AimSurplus.

All (3) of my M&P's came from BUD's GUNS. The other (2) M&P's were used and just came with (1) magazine in individual zipper cases. They were $239 each.
My DPD M&P was NEVER issued to a LEO. It was brand new, only test fired at the factory.
The Officer Store has/had "UNISSUED" Glock Gen4 G22's, Glock case, (3) magazines, very bright night sights, back straps, lock, paperwork, speed loader, and factory fired shell casing. I paid $339 in March for it.
If you come across any LE Trade In "UNISSUED" guns, BUY ONE, or more. They're brand new, NEVER issued. ;)

do glocks ever get this low? seems gen 3 glocks still selling for 500 dollars everywhere. kind of ridiculous

I have bought from the company mentioned and have been happy with my purchases.

That said, it is a little annoying that these are being sold with “spare mags” (that would have been issued with the gun, likely three in total) just for a little extra profit. Just sell the whole package for $349 or whatever and be done with it. :(

There's several gunstores here that have done that for decades with brand new guns. We're at the butt end of the supply chain and they have us by the short hairs.

Not getting a $279 Glock 22 from AIM in the early COVID days is a source of regret. I probably cannot buy from The Officer Store because I'm not prior military or LE.

The Officer Store doesn't do this. They sell it just as if you were to buy one new with the offered magazines that comes with a new gun purchase. I have been buying from them for a few years with great satisfaction. They sell their firearms by a Grade system;
Weapon Grade
Grade 1: The gun is in very good to excellent condition.
Grade 2: The gun is in good to very good condition.
Grade 3: The gun is in fair to good condition.
BUD's GUNS is hit or miss. Sometimes you can buy an UNISSUED gun, sometimes one with no box and only (1) magazine.
You can GOOGLE "LE TRADE INS" and several pages of gun stores are at your fingertips to buy said guns.

I was an early adopter of The M&P .40 and the pistol has been 100% reliable with all of the ammunition I’ve shot through it, both range and duty type ammo and is combat accurate.

It’s been absolutely impossible for me to “limp wrist” the pistol regardless of how hard I tried by intentionally loosely gripping it.

Good luck with it.

All of these pistols left with 3 magazines.... ;)

Shot it today and it shot great. Trigger could be lighter but very accurate and 100% reliable. Still confused by the dimples in the underside of the slide.

I believe those dimples on the underside of the slide are put there to identify which machine the slide was milled on.

At least that’s what we were led to believe when these pistols were first released to the public.

I know of a dept that recently switched from .40 cal Glock gen4 to 9mm. LEO's could buy back their own weapon and one more for $300. They came with night sights and some guns were un-issued.

It’s my understanding that early production examples will not accept all of the available after market triggers so check before buying upgraded triggers.

I got a LE trade in M&P 40 for $189.00 from Gander Mountain when the local store went out of business about five years ago. I also got a NOPD (New Orleans) marked Glock 22 third gen for $269.00 from Aim about two years ago. I later found another NOPD marked Glock 22 from a Louisiana police supply house ($299.00) and picked up a Ithaca model 37 marked LSP (it came from the Angola Prison) for $399.00 and a S&W model 64 marked EBRPSO (East Baton Rouge Parish) from the same supply house for $349.00. They no longer have any of these in stock.
