It's 95 degrees outside at 6:30 in the evening!! I don't know about you folks, but I don't do well in the heat!

I go outside early in the morning to do some work around the ol' homestead and have to knock off around 10:30 because of the blasted heat. We're at 4,500 feet above sea level, so you'd think it would be a little cooler. Not so. I can go out around 8:30 p.m. to do a little work until it's dark, but that's about it. And believe me...unloading two tons of hay when it's hot enough to pop corn outside is no fun.

I don't know what to do for ten hours while I wait for things to cool down. I know. I know. Some people can sit on the couch all day eating ice cream and watching Oprah, but I'd go stir crazy doing that.

Ms. Judy, on the other hand, loves the heat. She'll go outside and sit on the patio and let the heat penetrate her bones. Tough for me to do that. I start sweating like a Russian race horse.

I try to explain to her that in the winter when it's cold, you can always put more clothes on. But, in the summer when it's hot, there's a limit to what you can take off without the neighbors calling the police.

Oh well. Rant over. Let's just say that I'm already looking forward to fall.:D

Move up here to PA! We enjoy the 4 Seasons: Almost winter, winter, still winter, and road construction.
Actually I think it has to do with the phase the sun has been in and will be for about 6-8 years more. No, don't ask. I forget what it's called and I'm too lazy to look it up! It's some technical scientific name like Solar Maximus. Somebody here knows what it is.
Stay cool, and don't step on the scorpions!

I use a long, narrow, like a scarf, thin terrycloth towel and tie it around my head. Makes me look like a pirate or a wannabe biker, but it soaks up sweat so it doesn't run into your eyes and you can wring it out, and rinse it in cold water for the occasional cooling wipe down. Feels great when it's damp and cold and tied back on your head.

I often put an unfastened ball cap on top for the visor and to make me look, perhaps a trifle, less eccentric.

It was 95 degrees in the shade this morning, and I'm not in the shade when I take care of my horse or tend to my fruit trees. I needed to tinker with one of my cars, but it was too hot to leave the air conditioned house. My Northern European ancestry does not do well in this heat. I feel sorry for one of my friends. His wife wants to leave California for Texas, and she told him that it doesn't get hot in Texas. They are going to Texas in July to look at real estate. Should I tell him to bring a sweater for the cold Texas weather in July?

Spending my 1st 7 years outside here doing heavy construction, I'm kinda used to it. Was up in Indiana last week and the 1st 2 days had highs in the low 70's, lows in the 50's. I did bring a flannel shirt but still froze my. At least for you the heat will break. It will here too, 2nd week in October. Stay hydrated my friends. Joe

I start sweating like a Russian race horse.

Just in case there are a few who don't understand that metaphor, the Russians were infamous for doping up their race horses (illegally I might add) in order to get them to run faster. As a result, the horses would sweat profusely.

And, when I'm out in the heat, I do the same...only worse.

I'm with you mulepacker! I just checked and at 8PM PST tonight and it is 99 degrees F. I hate these 3 months of the year. Any work I have to do outside is done by 10AM. And another thing; I am sick of hearing people say "I like the heat", most of those who say this work in an air conditioned office and never actually ever do any WORK outside!

The best way to beat the heat is water and I don't mean drink it. Jump in it! I moved to a new house that has our neighborhood pool right around the corner and I went there today about 5pm and only a few people were there and had a beer and enjoyed talking to my 22 year old daughter while I cooled off. I use the pool several times a week and love that I don't have to clean or maintain it. I also recently bought a ski boat and have spent many summer days on it already and have had a lot of fun plus I seem to be a little more popular with my friends. I rented a cabin at Lake Tenkiller for my family on the fourth of July and hope to spend a lot of time boating and being wet.

3452 ft. in western Montana

Yesterday 96 degrees at 18:47pm MST.
Tonight, cooler at 87 thank goodness.

I have thick sludge-for-blood from spending my first 45 years in Northwest WA.
68 is perfect...
76 starts to get miserable...
80+ doesn't do me well.
And the humidity there makes it really miserable!

I can honestly say that in Western MT, it really is a dry heat.
Humidity yesterday was low 20%.

In a few weeks, we'll be getting over 100.
Smoke season starts soon though (our 5th season).
Thick as Fall fog...

I love it here!

Trout, turkey, bear, & deer. Used to be two small game seasons, one before deer and one after. Haven't hunted in years so don't know. But my favorite of all was pheasant-grouse-rabbit in the fall with Dad.
My present family & I drove down to Victoria, TX in August one time. Stupid idea but I missed my sister. Overnight motel in Tenn. I opened my car door and had to close it like now! I had flashbacks of back in the coke plant at J&L Steel. We got to Victoria next day. I swear that city is on the Equator. I need to drive down to San Antonio to retrieve a couple of Dad's rifles that my oldest sister has. I think I'm pretty sure that's not gonna happen anytime before November when it's a cool 88 degrees. I really don't know how you guys do it. I have all the respect in the world for you!

It was 109 today. It's just starting to get warm around Phoenix. We will have over 90 days of 100+ degrees this summer. Highest so far has been 114 and I had a pisstol match that day.

I now go prepared into the desert with 6 bottles of Gatorade, 6 bottles of water, a large collapsible ice chest and some cool neck cloths. It helps because the following week when it only hit 108 I had no problems from the heat.

Blame a lot of this heat in the western half of the nation on the strong La Nina out in the Pacific (look it up). Yesterday it rained and only got up to 90 degrees. It almost felt cool. First rain we have had in months and only the second this year. We have had triple digit temps (103-104 actual in the shade)almost every day since the about the last week in May. Normally we don't see this kind of heat until August-September, and in April-May we usually get some rain. Not this year.
