I currently own and shoot a 627 .38 Super in the ICORE competition game. I would love a second one but they are practically non-existent at this point. I am think about purchasing a 627 in .357 and having Pinnacle rework the cylinder to shoot Supers. Any thoughts on which would be the ideal revo to go with, 627PC or 627 V-comp. What about the 327 TRR8? Must have 8rd. capacity and 5" barrel.

Thanks!

I have a 627 V-Comp and 38 Super does fit but I never shot them. What moon clips do you use? I have thousands of super and super comp ammo loaded for my USPSA open guns

I use TK Custom moon clips. I shoot Carry Optics in USPSA so only load Super for ICORE. I spoke with Mark at Pinnacle and he said all he has to do is cut the cylinder to accept moons.

If the cylinder is reworked to accept 38SC with moon clips will it still shoot .357?

It will, but the base of the brass will bulge a little. The .38 Super brass is about .004 bigger than 38/357. You could ream the chambers yourself in about 20 minutes.

Would you still need the cylinder cut for moon clips, or is there enough clearance for them in a non-recessed cylinder? This thread has got me thinking: I'd like to pick up an extra cylinder for my 586 and ream it to accept the .38 Super. I shoot it in a Colt 1911, but I'd really like to try it in a revolver. Plus I wouldn't have to chase brass.

The cylinder still needs to be cut for moon clips. Most of the 627 ones come that way. You can easily rechamber any 357 to 38 Super. TK Custom does a lot of those conversions. TK has moon clips for everything out there - 5, 6, 7, & 8 shot, all different calibers, etc.

If you are a hand loader, you will not be happy the way 357 Magnum brass comes out of a converted cylinder. It will most certainly builge and the brass might split

Moon clipped 38 SUPER will not fit in a firearm whose cylinder has not been cut for the moon clip

I prefer to just have two cylinders. This 627 has had a 2nd cylinder for shooting 9x23 Winchester for more than a decade now.

The 9x23 Winchester gives me 357 Magnum performance with much faster reloads. Naturally since cartridges meant for auto loaders that fire from moon clips head space on the moon clips, all of the shorter cartridges can also be fired in this cylinder. This includes 38 SUPER, 38 ACP, 9x21, 356TSW, 9MM Parabellum, 380 ACP and others.

Then several years ago I picked up a 627 V-comp and thought it might make a fun pin gun so it also received a second cylinder capable of firing 9x23 Winchester

Mostly I have been shooting 9MM Parabellum out of this one

What is the best way to get a new cylinder and get it fitted? Can TK custom or Pinnacle Performance supply the cylinder and fit it or would I need to source the cylinder separately?

Pinnacle Precision did exactly that for my 627 conversion - Mark found an add'l cylinder at my request, reamed it for 9x23 as Colt SAA mentioned above. My 627 can now shoot various calibers in the reamed cylinder and 38/357 in the original cylinder.
