4506-1 ejector

I do believe Numrich GPC sent me the wrong Ejector & Magazine Depressor. I bought a Tempe PD 4506-1 awhile back, and it was rode hard. I replaced the recoil spring, firing pin spring, the extractor tooth was bent and chipped, and the ejector / mag depressor was snapped off.

I ordered up the part (# 14 on their schematic) from GPC, disassembled the lower, and when I installed the part the forward finger of the ejector looks way too long. The weapon will not correctly eject dummy rounds in a cycling test, and when I placed my 4566 alongside the 4506-1 it looks like this ejector is much much longer? I was a PD basic GLOCK armorer, a Remington 870 armorer, I have worked on all kinds of small arms doing basic maintenance, but I never attended any of the S&W armorer classes.

Any thoughts from the 4506 owners? Did GPC send me a part to a different caliber 3rd Gen weapon?

All of my S&W .45’s have the same length ejectors. For a visual, pictured left is a 4506-1 and a 4566 on the right. They are the same length. The 4506 down to the CS, (and everything in between,) appear to have the same length ejectors.

I’m “somewhat” organized and the shorter ejectors were in the 9mm drawer and the longer ones were in the .45 drawer.

Yes, the one in my 4566 looks like the above, the one GPC sent me is twice as long on the finger portion.

Yep Numrich is and always has been hit and miss but I’m not putting them down.

Take that ejector out, send it back, (or keep it cause who knows.) PM me and I’ll send you a correct one. I’m not technically a hoarder but I have enough to share.

You have to get that 4506-1 up and running ASAP.

I went through my spares and found what I needed. I bought an odd lot of 2nd / 3rd Gen parts two years ago and after sifting the bag I found the correct length ejector / mag depressor. I had been trying to figure out both the ejection issues and the misfeeding from the magazines and Wal-Lah it now cycles perfectly. I need a range day of practice, and then this middle aged Deputy Chief is gonna show the youngster deputies what a fine piece of 3rd Gen machinery will do on qualification day this year.

This and my 4566 will befuddle the holosight / tac light polymer pistol boys, and make my friend the Rangemaster smile from ear to ear.

I carried a Glock Model 21 in .45 acp for years as I couldn’t afford S&W products as a 21 year old municipal cop in 1992. After 30 years of service this fall, this Qualification range day will be epic.

No I am finally nearing retirement, and I just want to retire utilizing a weapon that I was unable to afford when I was just starting my career.

Part number 23019 is the correct ejector for a 4506. However there is an updated version of 23019 that is a touch longer and eliminated the sharp angle under the business end which has been know to develop a crack and break off.

Top three on the left are all 23019. Either of the middle two are what you want. Note the radius replacing the acute angle of the old version to prevent cracking.
