Good eating.

It all looks great cept for the Limas and Okra, ever since Ham and M-Fers I ain't been able to look at a Lima bean...Okra has never found a place on the table, cept in Jambolya or Craydad Etoofay.

Secondly- bacon, tomatoes, cucumber, fresh peas or beans, and skillet baked cornbread.

That looks delicious. I just might have that tonight. And the only unhealthy part are the cucumbers and tomatoes! :D

Them 'maters look REAL good.

Yeah but Rusty's Double Cheese from WC Lounge looks GREAT - those are my weakness (or maybe the source of my strength) but about once a month I get a craving for 3 double cheese, an order of onion rings and a large Big Red. The nearest White Castle is only about 3 miles away.

Moderation in all things, including moderation.

I have a salsa shop walking distance from me .. so I quick stroll down to said shop, and an exchange of funds sent me home with a few good sauces, salsa and other fine food enhancement technologies.
Got back home, and raided the fridge for viable combinations of protein bearing substances.
char broiled steak bites ... refried beans and a fair array of cheeses and sour cream. Shot from the hip and did burritos.
turned out far better than it had any right to.

These ladies have the right idea.

We save the bacon fat "drippings" from the frying pan and use them to season peas and beans. My mom learned it from her mom.
I grew up eating streak of lean and occasionally fat back, but steered away as an adult. I like thick, lean, smoked bacon cooked but still chewy.

Wednesday evening we went out to a high end fancy steak house. The meal was superb, excellent service and great ambiance too! That said, I could have been just as happy ( and saved hundreds) with two BLT ‘s along with some French fries and pickles. BTW for those who have yet to try it, get Costco’s thick apple smoked bacon! It’s the absolute BEST!!! A BLT on sourdough toast is the greatest! Hmmm, might have to make a few for lunch!😀

Just an old joke..no offense intended..no dings please

All the above "taters" & "maters" reminds me of an old joke. 3 good ol boys was riding around after a night of coon huntin when they decided they were a little hungry. One guy says "stop at the next store and I'll run in and get us something". The guy goes in the store and asks "where's your taters?" Clerk responds "right over there with the maters and lasses, and by the way you are from Virginia aren't you?" Guy says "yes I am how did you know? Clerk says the way you asked for "taters".

Back driving around the next guy says "I'm still hongry, stop at the next store I'll run in and get something". Guy goes in and askes "where's your taters, maters and lasses" Clerk says "your'e from North Carolina ain't you? Guy says "how'd you know" Clerk: by the way you asked for taters and maters.

Back to riding around the thrid guy says" man that's amazing how these guys know where you are from just by how you ask for something". He says...stop here, I'm going in to ask. He jumps out, walks in and askes the clerk " where's your taters, maters and lasses". Clerk says "Boy..you are from West Virginia aren't you?" Guy: says "How on earth did you know that?

(wait for it).....Clerk says "because this is a hardware store son!"

BTW: I can eat a good BLT anytime of the year, but my all time favorite "sandwich" if you please is a slow cooked, thinly shaved, Beef-on-Weck with pan dripping au jus for dipping on the side. Once or twice a year we hit BJ's and spend the big bucks on a quality roast, salt it, slow cook in oven, shave it super thin. Wife home makes the Kummelweck large rolls. MAYBE add a Klausens cold large dill pickle, DEFINETLY enjoy with 1 (sometimes 2) large Warsteiners. GOOD Eating!

this thread inspired me to stop at one of my favorite small town grocery stores that has a smokehouse... only an hour and a half away... I was helping the cousin move farm equipment anyway... so I stocked up on their "country style" bacon... it is mostly meat and is amazing...
