Took one three years ago and I've built a huge tree since.then.The main goal was to track down family members from previous generations who had emigrated from the old country and more or less disappeared and learn what had become of them and their descendants. I've had a fair amount of fun and success with this and have traded ims with distant cousins in various countries doing the same thing. It's a hoot.Anywho,my daughter adopted a young dog in Brooklyn last year that looks like a golden retriever and on a lark she had it tested. June is mostly Great Pyrenees with a touch of Lab who was picked up as a stray in Dallas. Yesterday she was contacted by the owner of a dog who's dna test shows him being Junes brother ,also picked up as a stray in Dallas who was adopted from a rescue in Washington state.
Even a dog has no privacy now [emoji23]

Back in the mid-80s I moved back to my home town after about 10 years. Some people kept referring to me as some dude named Billy. Even old friends said we looked like twins. Ended up he was having "an affair" with some dude's wife. Dude accosted me in a bar and lost, bad. (drunks are easy!) I finally met the guy and maybe our hair styles were the same but that was it. 10 years younger and definitely no relation! Thought maybe dad got a little too drunk back in the day!

Considering my "youthful romantic history" I wouldn't submit a sample for any amount of cash. I don't need any 40-something guy or gal calling me "dad" after all these years. A buddy of mine did it some years back and found out not only dad was catting about. Has a whole 'nother family on the Gulf Coast of Florida turns out. Ignorance is peaceful. Joe

A student of mine was accosted, then attacked by an angry dude at Wal-Mart; he fought back, but still ended up with a broken arm. Turns out his first cousin, who he resembled, was romantically involved with the attacker's wife.

Note to fight-starters - avoid starting stuff in WalMart or other major retailers. They usually have video of every square inch inside and outside.

There's a pair of identical twin girls that have a FaceBook channel.

They did several DNA tests, and it was the same. Finger prints are all that separate them.

When I was in grad B-school, I had a classmate who looked like he could have been my twin (but we were about five years apart in age). Just like looking in a mirror. I didn't interact with him much, just enough to determine that there was no possibility that we were related. I have no interest in ever getting a DNA test.

I also heard 23andMe sold all of the data they collected to China. They also said China is experimenting with DNA and virus's. Who'd of thunk---

My wife is doing her family tree through Ancestry dot com and it's proving very interesting for her. She had my son and I submit DNA swabs when she did. No surprises for me; my Dad did extensive research back in the days when it was referenced mostly through libraries and graveyards. He was a professional historian, good at it, and enjoyed it. He said I was 99% German and Ancestry dot com says I'm only 96% Kraut. No new revelations there.

Our son, adopted from Southeast Asia, was far more interesting but it did not reveal much unexpected or surprising.

My wife's info has refuted all kinds of bunk in her family's oral history. French Huguenots, they managed to escape France at the point of Catholic lances. They prided on being run out of France for horse theft - turns out it was "simply" religious persecution. And zero Native American Indian blood. My wife, who truly looks the part Chickasaw she was always told she is/was, took it much better than the rest of her side of the family. She's met some quite distant cousins, personally, through her efforts, that have been really wonderful and interesting people.

My natural curiosity has never been tweaked by DNA findings. We did our family tree the hard way, and sure not interested in expanding it using a method that I don't trust. I'm old.

I sincerely hope no "sprouts" pop up and call me Daddy. It's possible of course, but at my age, there'd be no child support to consider. I ain't submitting no DNA either, not without a court order at least.
