So I am watching an episode of Police Story...two cops driving a 74 pontiac lemans....chase scene comes on and mid chase they are driving a chevy caprice...a mile later they enter an upaved lot to cut off the bad guys and are back in the 74 lemans...they ram the side of the bad guys car, and get out to look at the damage, and the damaged squad car they get out of is a 67 ford galaxie...that's a first for me....

You're not supposed to notice that. ;)

I was watching an episode of Then Came Bronson recently where he was supposed to be riding his Harley Sportster on a single-track trail off road. The bike they showed was a smoking 2-stroke dirt bike, over which they had dubbed a Harley V-twin sound. I guess I wasn't supposed to notice that either.

They do not take such a relatively long attention spans as yours into account when patching together the entertainment for the masses.

I really used to like Police Story. They had old Sea Hunt himself - Lloyd Bridges - on several episodes. They had one where he was a longtime plainclothes officer and Ryan O'Neal was his young partner. He told Ryan to only keep five rounds in his Colt Python. Not an empty under the hammer. An empty at 10:00. As he explained it, if you need to shoot someone, you know that the first trigger pull is going to be an empty, so you just pull twice - click bang. But if a bad guy managed to get his hands on your 6-inch, and attempts to shoot you with it, it will just go click, which will disconcert him, giving you time to pull your 2-inch and kill him.

That actually made sense when I was in high school.

In the other episode he was a beat cop, and came upon this expensive car parked in an alley. Sneaking up on it, he saw that it was being driven by well-known drug dealer and convicted felon Joe Blow. He makes Joe get out of the car and he performs a search. Finds a 1911 and a kilo of heroin. At the trial the defense attorney claims illegal search, and the judge agrees and throws out the evidence, so the case was dismissed. Mildly annoyed, Officer Sea Hunt jumps to his feet and demands to know if that means they're going to give him back the 45 and the heroin. Got himself a little lock up time for contempt of court.

I have always enjoyed listening to tires squealing on gravel roads.

Actually..tires do screech on "dirt" roads, given the proper circumstances. Hard adobe is almost as grippy as asphalt and if spun fast enough tires will yell and even smoke..and if there are enough stones packed tight in any dirt, tires will squeal/smoke as well. Ask any offroader. Been there..done that..;)

In movies..ANYTHING is possible. I have to remind my wife of that all the time..silly woman..:)

Regarding the OP's citing different
cars. I was not aware it was
against the law for LEOs to change
cars.

When Chicago Blue first came on. Voight had a Dodge Durago like the one I was driving at the time. A few episodes in the Durango got wrecked. No wonder they had him driving such a ****. Lol.

It's not that uncommon, especially if there is going to be a crash during the chase. They don't want to ruin one of the newer cars that they have for the show, so they use a beat up old one.

The other thing they do is use stock footage because it's cheaper to use than filming a complete chase.

Compared to movies, TV shows have much tighter budgets and cut corners where they can.

BTW, in "Bullitt" you watch the car chase carefully you'll notice that one car, I think a VW gets hit at multiple times. They just shot it from slightly different angles.

I always liked the bullets that sparked when they hit something, still looking for some to try.Almost forgot about the revolvers that never need reloaded.

Sir , you are correct about the multiple hub cap loss but it was from the Charger. Steve's Mustang had five spoke wheels .
I've watched Bullit many multiples of times, but I've never counted more than five hubcaps coming off the Charger including the two when it took its final flight to its flaming demise......Ben

The car changes all took place while the chase was ongoing. This was one chase, same drivers, three different cars. There was no break in the chase, only scene changes...

So what is your point?

Again, no law exists LEOs cannot
change cars if they wish. Obviously
you didn't see the entire chase or
you would have seen the exchange
of vehicles.
