Can the right side safety on the CSX be trimmed or eliminated while retaining the safety lever on the left side?
That ambi lever pinches the skin on my trigger finger when I have a full grip on the gun and attempt to move lever to off position.
Great gun except for that one thing.

The size and shape of the lever can be modified. (trimmed or re-shaped) Although you can always change the altered part back with a new original part, keep in mind the potential warranty questions this may cause with the manufacturer. I would order a new safety before trying to modify the current configuration.

Also keep in mind that the black part of the lever is just a plastic coating, so you can actually expose the metal lever underneath if you remove too much material (too much of the over-coated plastic)

I find this ironic after reading your post just the other day regarding the simple shortening of an easily replaceable screw. You frown upon a mod to aid a competition only revolver yet you have no issue posting the modification of a safety. I am a bit perplexed - as you can't have it both ways on two different days!

Not criticizing your methodology, just trying to show you how different you think on two different days in posting.

QUOTE:
This, whatever it is, is certainly not "Smithing", as the thread label implies.

Perhaps we need an outlet titled, "Unauthorized and potentially unsafe modifications". Your mileage may vary, proceed at your own risk.

The one mod I would make to the CSX to make it more user friendly would be a slightly larger left-side lever, and a stiffer CLICK as it moves from oje position to another. The lever on this pistol is a little mushy, and on a SAO pistol that kinda sux. I still think its a great gun, and often carry and shoot it.

Truly "ironic" indeed. "Old coot's" like me are completely unpredictable.

Just my unprofessional opinion about two completely different types of changes. I'm an old, ignorant police armorer, please ignore my posts.

My new signature line: "Please forgive me if I offended anyone".

You did not offend me Armorer ( just made me stop and take notice ) and I posted this with a smirk on my face. I was having a little fun and at the same time was a little serious. We ALL NEED to laugh at ourselves once in a while and not take ourselves too seriously! People who do - have high blood pressure! LOL! I've done similar and we're not alone here!! ;)

While I never went through the S&W Armorer School, I have been working on my own Revolvers about as long as you have. I also hold a few patents and have improved many commercial items having nothing to do with guns. Because I do this strictly for pleasure, fun and because it is my hobby, I've become sort of a perfectionist - I am also an OCD safety nut! Ask me about S&W Auto's (with the M41 being an exception) or S&W Shotguns, I have no experience with them and would usually not even tender any suggestions - unless generic.

You are exactly right. I take myself way too seriously.

One of the other members here labelled me an "old coot" on that thread the other day. The Free Dictionary defines an old coot as, quote: "An eccentric or irritable older person, especially a man, whose views or attitudes are considered boring or old-fashioned." Fits me to a tee.

I'm not an inventor. I don't hold any patents. I am not an authority on anything.

Hopefully though, my experience and what I've learned through my extensive list of mistakes over the past few decades will help someone here avoid the same pitfalls. I do enjoy this forum, and the firearms issues and other topics openly discussed here. I have learned a lot here over the past few years. I wish I had discovered this forum years ago. Hopefully, I can help someone out once and awhile. That is just icing on the cake.

As I said, if my info provided on a particular post is deemed unimportant, redundant or "old fashioned", please ignore me.

Sincerely....the "old coot"

As you well know I frequent this Forum often as I do enjoy it. Many times in the middle of the night when I can't go back to sleep after a trip to the bathroom - lol. I know you have helped many people here and I do respect that. I also wanted to answer many of the questions members post, however many a time you have beat me to the punch - no sense in reiterating what is the correct way to fix something. Sometimes there are alternate methods that also work - sometimes even better. One must always keep an opened mind - that's how better mouse traps are built.

If nothing else in this world I do have a good sense of humor and have no problem laughing at myself when I screw up. I do not profess to be a professional (never ever said that) and have always been upfront here on the Forum. One last thing about me I will say..... the best way to get me to do something mechanical is to tell me it can't be done. 99% of the time I am successful at it - although it may not be financially practical. lol!
