I went to my cousin's house earlier today (Saturday 12/10/22) to check out his newly acquired 1979 S&W 9mm nickel plated 52-2 (he paid $500). I brought my SD9 and my LE TRADE IN M&P 1.0 40 with a factory 357 SIG barrel installed. I shot a box of 50 rds. SPEER 125 gr. TMJ through it. She's a real tack driver!
The 357 SIG rd. is my favorite rd. to shoot right up there with the 40S&W rd.
Anyone else have a 357 SIG M&P or a M&P 40 with a 357 SIG barrel in it?
How do you like the 357 SIG rd.?

That is a VERY clean looking Detroit PD trade in

I have never been a big shooter of 40S&W firearms, but I am a Huge fan of the 357SIG cartridge. I go through thousands of rounds of ammunition each year.

I was first exposed to 357SIG out in Dallas in the early 90s when Texas DPS was considering it and eventually selected the P226 as the issue sidearm for uniform Officers, the P239 was eventually added for those that needed something more concealable.

Since that first day I have owned, shot and carried many firearms chambered for that round

I have two of Smith & Wessons first pistol that was chambered for the 357SIG cartridge . . . . the 357SIGMA :)

Not a particularly pretty firearm, but it got the job done and carried 16+1 rounds of ammunition, not too bad for the 1990s.

Much better looking and functioning, I do own both full size and compact versions of the M&P 357

Both of these are duty guns from the WCSO. My compact has the Factory supplied Crimson Trace laser unit in the backstrap and I carry spare full size magazines with the X-Grip spacer. I do have an ankle holster for the compact, but I no longer do much ankle carry since I have no need of a BUG

This last 357SIG Smith & Wesson I own is a tool room sample. It is a Shorty 357, it has been confirmed as a run of one gun. It was manufactured in 1992 by the Performance Center but I have been unable to find out at whos request

I also have many SIGs chambered in that cartridge as well as a few HKs.

The P239 with the 405 inventory number on it is my Texas DPS pistol

The Hard Chromed P239 on the bottom of the group photo is carried with me every day even now

Then there is the MP5/357. 30 rounds on target in just over 2 seconds. Unfortunatly I had not noticed the camera had been moved :(

We even have a suppressor for this one. I also switched to the collapsible stock but may switch back

I am in the process of having a holographic red dot sight mounted on this one. The red dot will be a SIGnificant improvement on the OEM sights

I was going to say I have a couple but the previous post makes me look pale.

Not at all.

I wish I had a compact that looked as clean as yours do

Also remember that I have been shooting this cartridge and purchasing firearms for it for 30+ years now. Time has been on my side

If you only bought one or two really good firearms each year and did not sell or trade things off, you would have a Very Robust collection after three decades

Picked up 357 SIG conversion barrels for a couple M&P 40s, a 40 Compact (just recently) and a FN FNX-40: it is one of my favorite ca!ibers as well.

Reloading for them is not much more $ per round than for my 9mm or 40s...

Cheers!

P.S. The Lehigh 90 & 118gr bullets are really awesome: I've even loaded some of their 65gr and those can REALLY get a move on!

357SIG is barely more than 9MM in hand loading costs

I have a 95 grain JHP that breaks 1700 FPS from my SIG X-5

I recently acquired a quantity of nickel plated 50 grain Total Copper Hollowpoints that I am looking forward to developing a load for.

2,000 FPS from the 5" barrel should be an achievable goal

Whose & how, please...?

Cheers!

P.S. That's "bullets?" & "powder?", BTW...
The projectiles are pulls from some loading mistake. I do not believe they are offered for retail sale

The Company that makes the stuff is about 1.5 hours away from me but in a part of the State I get to anyway. They use this projectile in a 380ACP loading and a 9MM +P+ loading

How about a 60 grain 10MM Auto at 2400 FPS :)

Or a 78 grain 45 Long Colt at 1800 FPS

I think it is going to be a fun projectile to play with

I have my Sig P239 in .357 Sig which my wife bought me for a retirement gun around 1999. Cartridge was relatively new and I had been considering a .40 after attending Sig Armorers school. They were offering a two tone P229 with extra mags and I was jonesing for it. The Departments Firearms instructor talked her into the .357 239. Glad he did it’s rock solid. I’ve since added a DAK 9mm 239. You have to put Hogue grips on them IMO to make them shootable.

Here's a Forum report from March, 2020 about my M&P 40c that I converted to .357 SIG with a Storm Lake barrel. The Accuracy Scores I mention are the percentage of shots that hit in a 4" x 4" square during my last 15 sessions with each caliber..

"M&P 40 Compact v1.0
Purchased December, 2014
Round Count: 15,916 (13,388 .40 S&W; 2,528 .357 SIG)
Accuracy Scores for .40 S&W: 15 yards, 348 shots in square/540 shots taken = 64%; 20 yards, 316/680 = 46%
Accuracy scores for .357 SIG: 15 yards, 394/630 = 63%; 20 yards, 329/650 = 51%

Comment: As you can see, there is little difference in accuracy between the two rounds at 15 yards, but at 20 yards the .357 SIG has a clear advantage. My 40c has been my carry gun ever since I bought it, and I now carry it as a 357. The Storm Lake barrel was a perfect drop-in fit. My 40c is not only accurate, it has been very reliable, with only two failures to eject and two failures to feed, over its 15,916 rounds while shooting two handed. Shooting one handed, I had several additional FTEs and FTFs early on, but those were due to limp wristing, which I don’t count against the gun. As I approached 10,000 rounds, I started getting failures to fire. When a new striker did not help, S&W took it back and completely rebuilt it, replacing every moving part except the extractor, at no charge. (Love that S&W lifetime service policy!) It has functioned flawlessly ever since. While I’m always on the lookout for a better carry pistol, I have yet to find one that has the combination of accuracy, reliability, capacity, portability, and hitting power that my 40c/357 has. It’s a keeper."

Thanks to the Plague, I've only shot my 40c a few times since I posted this report. However, there are two things to add: 1) My 40c does not work well with ultra hot (1476 fps!) Sellier & Bellot 125g .357 SIG JHP ammo. I had several trigger-reset failures with this ammo, so I'll reserve it for my more robust SIG P229. 2) Sadly Storm Lake appears to be out of business. It's too bad because my conversion barrel has been excellent.

I got one of the Detroit PD M&P .40s that was in basically new condition in the box with 3 Mags and 3 backstraps and tools for $309 shipped. Wondered why they got rid of them, did they change to 9m/m? It was a very nice gun and soft shooting for a lightweight, powerful pistol.

While Storm Lake may no longer be selling the .40S&W-to-.357SIG conversion barrels, KKM Performance does. I've bought two of their barrels this year - one for a 3 1/2" M&P2.0 and the other for a 4" M&P2.0. Also, KKM sells a .40S&W-to-9mm 4" conversion barrel. Buy both the .357SIG and 9mm conversion barrels, and you could shoot all three calibre rounds out of one chassis.

I originally bought (4) of the DPD 1.0 40's. The one in my current pics is the unissued one. I just recently sold the other (3) which were used.
I paid $249 for the used M&P's and $299 for the unissued M&P. All came with (3) mags each, back straps, night sights, box, etc.
I bought a Storm Lake 40 to 9 barrel and a S&W M&P factory .357 SIG barrel. Now I have (3) M&P calibers in one M&P.

I am a fan of the .357 SIG and bought this one, a SA XD many years ago.

A number of years later I picked up my M&P .40

so SWMBO bought Storm Lake conversion barrels in .357 SIG and 9mm(along with magazines for that caliber) for my birthday and Christmas.
