You have one already don't you, Aegis? Or am I confusing you with someone else? I know that Snowcat has two or more of them.

I always have to remember to be careful in 1046 discussions.

So glad I found a S&W 1046 already.....and purchased at a very reasonable price!

Merry Christmas!
Cheers!!!

Wow. That gun isn’t even all original. It has a blued forged hammer and trigger. All 10mm’s I’ve ever seen had the flash chromed hammer and trigger set.

{careful now}
BOY I WISH I OWNED ONE! so I could sell it.

I always have literally -ZERO- intent in my heart to offend, but I struggle because this topic is compelling. I know the folks who love these... definitely love these.

It's so difficult to have a quality, respectful and insightful discussion on the Model 1046 without anyone getting annoyed, upset or mildly offended.

This is a production gun. It is my assertion that a factory letter from S&W/Roy Jinks dated October 21, 2010 is the reason that the 1046 sells for 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 times what it otherwise might be worth if not for this factory letter.

Smith & Wesson had a contract to produce this pistol that they might not otherwise have offered. And the buyer pulled out of the contract. Someone has given far better and more interesting details than I can remember offhand.

Until the factory letter published that only 151 examples of the 1046 were produced, I don't think anyone would ever have considered dropping four times the value of a comparable 1006 on one of these pistols.

Exclusivity and rarity is absolutely one of the keys of a market price or "value" and I would never begrudge anyone the chase of the gun of their dreams. Where it gets frustrating for me is that the 1046 is a production gun, no more and certainly no less, but a production gun just the same. Anyone who is familiar with literally any semiautomatic that the Performance Center built and sold knows how they compare to production guns.

And there are different examples of fantastic PC semiautos that were minted to less than 150 examples.

Oh well... this position of mine rarely fares well. :D But that's okay, popularity isn't what compels me to post about it.

I hope I haven't annoyed anyone who digs the Model 1046. I do very much love my 1006 and I'd like another and I'd kinda like a 1026 too. The DAO 3rd Gens were never my thing, but I think they were ahead of their time in the market and their design and execution was very, very good.

I cannot imagine any situation in my life where somehow I got a hold of a 1046 and didn't sell it.
