What would your “bug out” handgun be?

Like another, CZ P09 would be my choice, but more likely I’d use a gun that uses the same magazines for the gun I’d have my wife bring.

In that case it would be either my SIG P320/ M18 or my CZ PO1/PCR

To answer a response above, I think the bug out concept is one designed for conversation because there is no doubt that bugging out when everyone else is will leave you out of gas, stuck on a highway far from home. And where are we bugging out, to, anyway? Are you Special Agent Gibbs with a remote cabin in the woods somewhere?

If the proverbial fecal matter hits the swirling blades being hunkered down in your own dwelling, well stocked with food, water, weapons, ammunition, medical supplies (for YOUR special needs, if any, plus just normal stuff) and a place to use for "waste matter", is likely your best bet.

YMMV

Sadly, that makes it difficult for folks who live in apartments, condominiums, etc., but that's life in America..........

LOL
My thoughts exactly... those of you who live in Montana and Wyoming, imagine the rest of us heading your way, in cars packed with dried food and grandchildren, armed to the teeth.

My biggest problem would be Bug Out to WHERE, not which gun I'd take.

If I did know my destination and was actually going somewhere, I'd probably stick with my EDC which is a Sig P365. The reason is I am very familiar with EDC-ing it, I shoot it very well, it's reliable, very accurate, light weight, has night sights, a descent magazine capacity and descent stopping power with the Federal 124 grain HST's. I've got plenty of spare ammo & magazines for it. If I were bugging out, concealment would be most important for me and that handgun fits the bill perfectly. I see no need to change.

It would be whatever I’m carrying. I’m one of those irresponsible folks who keeps a pistol (6904) and rifle (30/30) in my rig.

Lately my carry gun has been this 640.

But as others have noted, it would have to be something extreme to get me to bug out.

My bug out bag is attached to my ATV, got a snub Ruger 357, Marlin 357 lever strapped to the back, can carry plenty of ammo and whatever else I may need, now just waiting for the end of the world. Still haven’t figured out how to strap the dog down, but I’m working on it.

I have no plans to bug out. I'd rather die at home.

I'm with ya. Too old to run, too much stuff, nowhere to take it. I'll be right here, one way or the other.
Oh yeah, to the question. Full size M&P 9mm.

As several others have said, a Glock 19. In my case, it’s a Gen 4 with eight mags, including a couple 17 rounders fitted with grip extensions. If I could stretch to bring a couple more, I’d add my Beretta 92 and Shield Plus. In a long gun, I’d take my Mini-14 which is the closest thing I have to an A/R.

My milage does vary......while I'm Ok to "Bug in" in my "Burb of the Burgh'' if I can get out early [or after the rush/die off] and get to the Laurel Highlands I'll be even better off in the long run.

I suppose this is intended as a fun, fantasy topic as the real reasons for bugging out varies by region. For example coastal areas the threat of hurricanes creates a different situation than here in land locked Land of OZ.

Where I live the most likely reasons are a chemical spill accident on a highway or railroad line not to far away or a power failure from a severe ice storm.

A chemical spill releasing a cloud of toxic gas is a true emergency meaning getting out of the area fast. Maybe grabbing the car keys and pets and driving out of the danger area as quickly as possible. I would simply use my edc; a Beretta 92FS.

A power outage from a severe storm is a longer term event both in time to pack gear and supplies and also in amount of time before returning home. We have had such a situation. But I don’t see any real change. In addition to my edc Beretta having my wife pack a pistol and maybe a AR and ammo can full of loaded magazines.

Like other posters I am a “Bug In” person. I am working on meeting FEMA’s recommendations for two weeks of food and supplies along with surviving for longer period of 30 days. I have the guns and ammunition needs well covered.

IMO those who are planning to bug out are already screwed.

Don't intend to run, but if I have to, my M17 in a hip or shoulder holster and my P365XL as BUG in an IWB holster at the small of my back - and lots of extra mags. My 9mm PC carbine and lots of extra ammo would be in my SUV. My wife and high school senior boy would be similarly armed with Beretta and Taurus 92s as primaries and Kahr, SCCY, or KelTec BUGs. It's hard for me to get too into the idea of running, since my somewhat isolated farm is the place my relatives from Philly and other suburban and metro locations plan on coming to if they have to bug out!
