Aw dang…turned my brass olive drab again.

Sounds like a whole bunch of work and expense compared to good old walnut media followed by corncob media. Usually about an hour of each and it goes back into a jar ready to load again. Real simple--no washing, no rinsing, no drying, no chemicals to shorten the integrity of the brass.

I was thinking about wet tumbling, but I agree. The walnut dry tumble for a couple hours with a capful or two of pledge or case polish and the brass comes out pretty. Easy peasy.

I go even simpler, my media is a 50/50 mix of crushed walnut shells and corn cob media. I tumble the brass for an hour or so with a used dryer sheet cut into 1" strips to keep the dust down and the media clean. (like magic lol)

I also agree you might want to have your water checked. Tumbling in plain water shouldn't tarnish brass.

Just call it the new "Dark Earth " brass ...and tell people it's a new and expensive process to Tactify your Fighting Brass !

They'll never know the difference ... Carry On !

Can you turn it back to looking good or is it stuck ugly forever?

I just ran a batch through the wet tumbler, about half tarnished and half not. I can’t tell the difference, so to answer your question, no, it’s not stuck ugly:)

I've been wet rotary tumbling for a couple months now and I wouldn't go back to corn cob for nothing. Brass is tenX cleaner including inside the case and primer pockets. I've done 223 and even the inside of those are clean.

I use a couple tablespoons of the RCBS rotary tumbler solution and a tablespoon or so of Tide Oxi clean detergent. Set tumblr on an hour and a half. Brass comes out and you'd swear it's new. All I do is rinse and dry in oven on 200 degrees for like 15 minutes.

Not a single problem, yet.

Tarnishing usually happens with too much Lemi-Shine (citric acid). I did that early on also, and learned the hard way…I still have a bunch of .38 Special I haven’t shot yet that is tarnished.

In this case, I tumbled in clean water after tumble cleaning. Water was low Ph or high chlorine content, not sure which, and caused the tarnish.

Personally, I'm more concerned with load development than brass cosmetics.
But, whatever floats your boat!

Why not try this......

(Gee, your brass smells terrific!)

Yep, too much Lemi-Shine.
I had an old bottle of Meguiars' car wash liquid laying around, so since it said that it was water spot free, I tried it as my cleaning solution.
WOW, that stuff worked GREAT!
I checked the ingredients to see what is in it and unfortunately, I'm not a chemist so most of it I dunno. I was basically looking for ammonia, which I believe makes brass brittle. Guess I'll find out as I'm gonna keep on using it on my .38 special brass from now on (or until it shows something bad).
This is the stuff....Meguiar's(R) Deep Crystal™ Car Wash, 64 oz., Liquid | Meguiar's

First time was too much Lemi-shine, but I started this thread because rinsing them in tap water (with whatever else was in it) produced nearly the same result.
