1975 Model 57 Nickel

Went to a local gun show this pst weekend and found a no dash 1975 model 57. The price was $1450 and was in excellent condition.
I have been looking for one of these a long time and could not pass it up.
I think I attached a picture

Were the Nickel finish revolvers as common as the blue finish?
The price seems in line with the blue book numbers at 98% condition
What do you all think?

Nickel finish usually made up about fifteen percent of the total production of a model offered in bright blue or nickel.

Very nice ! Price was fair, too. Nickel usually brings a 10-20% premium in value over blued. I gave $1300 for a blued "S" prefix M57 about 3 years ago, and it didn't have the factory stocks.

I've been shooting a nickel 4 inch Model 57 for over fifteen years. It is still my favorite N-frame revolver.

Is that a 6" barrel? I have a 6" blued, 6" nickel, and most recent a 5" nickel. All in unfired condition in presentation case with papers. Overall I paid about $1,600 for each. Like they say, condition, condition, condition. I also have three 8 3/8 barrel length new condition presentation case. Same price. $1,600. They are all 57 no dash. Pinned and recessed. One is a S serial number but didn't seem to raise the price.

AC Man...I would definitely letter the 5-inch Model 57 as only one has been reported by collectors and it would definitely be a unique revolver, if not one of two!!!!

I did get to the range today and shot Remington 210 grain JSP load-it is listed to run 1300 fps. I was very happy with the results. Shooting from a bag rest at 12 yards I shot the attached grouping - the low hits was me.
I then shot some Hornady 210 grain XTP which is listed on the box at 1545 fps. The recoil was about the same and the POI was similar to the Remington load. I did expect the recoil to be more pronounced with this load but the revolver is fairly beefy, so it does absorb recoil well.
I then shot the 25 yard steel plates off hand both sigle action and double action. I hit them solid consistently.

I am very happy with how this revolver handles and look forward to shooting it alot.

I got the IDENTICAL pistol made in 1968 from an estate and it is in 95% condition also.

I’m not at all conversant on pricing but that seems typical of today’s pricing. I think you found a pretty nice revolver. That’s what I think. The exact price is more or less secondary.

It’s a shame the .41 Magnum never became more popular. It’s ideal for the N-frame S&W, in my opinion - particularly with standard 210-220 grain bullets. Enjoy your Model 57. Congrats on your new .41!

I agree that th 41 mag should be more popular. In the limited shooting I have had since i obtained mine it seems to be a fairly accurate round. I guess the 44 mag may have been more popular and had more sales.
I really like shooting the 41 mag.

A couple years ago I found this minty 1980 4" nickel tucked away on a pawn shop table at a local gun show. They were asking $1500, but I got OTD for $1200 (just the revolver) and was quite happy! I think you'll have a fun time with that one- if you can find some reasonable priced ammo. Enjoy!

Not cheap at around $1.50 per round but readily available.

May have to get into reloading again.
