Mike & the Mechanics song "The Living Years".
I was lucky and got to tell Dad I loved him and say goodbye just hours before he passed.

But, what grabbed me in the article was an offhand reference to an apparently minor blip in the culture wars about a song, Fast Car, that was a hit 35 years ago by a gay Black woman, Tracy Chapman, that has been revived by a current country western star, Luke Combs, the blip being Combs is a white guy and cultural appropriation, and all that BS which, apparently dissipated, when Chapman said she thought it was great that a new generation appreciated her song...
I had the privilege to know Don Edwards and his professional persona was a genuine reflection of his personality and values. He and his wife lived on a ranch close to a church pastored by a close friend of mine not far from the small church of which I was pastor.
Each year he would come and sing at that church (of which they were members) during a revival service. I'm sure you are not surprised to learn it was one of the better attended services during the multi-day event.
His sweet widow still attends that church and although missing him greatly, keeps his memory fresh by continuing the legacy of his music.
