What song lyric strikes a deep truth for you ?

Like Rusty, as someone who dabbles in songwriting, the admiration and respect for so many come to mind . . . but IF i had to narrow it down to one that pierced me the first time I heard it and stays with me is Gordon Lightfoot's question in "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" when he sings

"Does anyone know where the love of God goes . . .
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?"

So much could be unpacked in that short plea . . .

But, what grabbed me in the article was an offhand reference to an apparently minor blip in the culture wars about a song, Fast Car, that was a hit 35 years ago by a gay Black woman, Tracy Chapman, that has been revived by a current country western star, Luke Combs, the blip being Combs is a white guy and cultural appropriation, and all that BS which, apparently dissipated, when Chapman said she thought it was great that a new generation appreciated her song...

I'm sure it's gratifying for Chapman that after all this time it was felt her song was still relevant and worthy to be covered . . . and it sure won't hurt when all those royalties come rolling in . . . ;)

Too many songs get to me, often in different ways.............

One that always clicks is a little tune by Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, "Life's a long song", the entire tune is good but the final verse sums it all up...
"life's a long song, but the tune ends too soon for us all"...........

I had the privilege to know Don Edwards and his professional persona was a genuine reflection of his personality and values. He and his wife lived on a ranch close to a church pastored by a close friend of mine not far from the small church of which I was pastor.

Each year he would come and sing at that church (of which they were members) during a revival service. I'm sure you are not surprised to learn it was one of the better attended services during the multi-day event.

His sweet widow still attends that church and although missing him greatly, keeps his memory fresh by continuing the legacy of his music.

Thank you for sharing this ..... I wish I could have seen him in person. I didn't discover him until about 15 years ago.

Shortly after my wife and I started dating, Simon and Garfunkle released their album Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme. It contained a song that didn't become a huge hit but summed up my feelings for the girl I would marry three years later. Since she passed on 8 years ago, I still remember the song fondly, not for what I lost, but for what I had found and still love.

Mike & the Mechanics song "The Living Years".

I was lucky and got to tell Dad I loved him and say goodbye just hours before he passed.

Love that song. I'd forgotten it.
Thanks for posting.
I started listening to it at work but started tearing up.
Not cool.
Brought back memories of my Dad. He's been gone for 5 years but in some ways it seems like yesterday. In others it seems like 100 years.
I didn't tell him I loved him enough.
Had to turn it off.

Jonny Lang
"Lie to me"

Go full screen and Turn up the Volume to hear the vocals. Check out the best backup singers ever on the video

I saw Jonny on Catalina Island maybe 20 years ago. He was a young skinny kid, but had the soul of an old man. He feels the music like few do today.
