After 45 years in the automotive business, 10 as a mechanic and the last 35 as a parts manager, I retired in April. I don't miss getting up and going to work in the morning at all.

My wife and I have been planning a move to southern Arizona for almost 20 years and hopefully this year we will make it happen, with a little luck before the snow flies. But we have two houses to sell here in Maine first. We've spent the last 3 months going through 32 years worth of stuff we've gathered, many trips to the dump and Goodwill, not to mention giving lots of stuff away to family and friends. More work then I ever imagined!

One thing I had been saying for years is that when I get to Arizona I want to learn how to ride so I can explore the back country, dirt roads and trails, on a motorcycle. I'm 63 years old and have never ridden in my life! Two weeks ago I signed up for a motorcycle training class as I want to get my license in Maine rather than have to take a road test in Arizona traffic. I figured a head start would be good for the course so last week I went out and bought a new Kawasaki KLX300 dual sport.

I've been watching training videos on Youtube for pointers to get me started. I've got a little over 800' of driveway and in the last week I've put 26 miles on the bike just in my driveway practicing low speed maneuvers and having a ball!

After working my butt off for 45 years it's really nice to be able to enjoy the fruits of my labors! Once i get settled in AZ, I may get bored and pick up something part time but I may not too!

Congratulations! I’ve been fully retired for several years and have enjoyed every minute of it. Not having to go into work, have a boss (except my wife) and put up with all the nonsense that goes with it has been terrific. Enjoy yourself, you’ve earned it.

Retirement has been good to me and I've always been very busy mostly with guns, handloading, and shooting though hunting days are probably over. There are a few other interests as well. Far too few hours in the day. I couldn't imagine ever becoming bored, especially to the point I'd want even a minimal, part-time job.

That looks like a nice lightweight bike to start on. What's the Mustang in the background ?

The Mustang in the background is a 2017 Ecoboost premium convertible. I've added a Ford Performance sport exhaust, a mishimoto intercooler and charge pipes, an Airaid intake pipe, and an oil separator. Goes great and if I keep my foot out of it I can get upwards of 30mpg.

This was my 60th birthday present to myself. My wife says it's my midlife crisis, I told her that it's not a mid life crisis unless there's a 30 year old blonde in the passenger seat! (I like living dangerously............)

Congrats on your retirement!!! :)

I'm 3 months into "semi-retirement" (just consulting now) and just plain loving life! I don't ride but find myself finishing yard projects and getting ready for hunting season. I also have weekend trips to Mackinac Island and another to a lodge on the Pere Marquette River along with a bear hunt this fall.

A pic of my mowing and food plot adventures this am .....

Congrats! The more people that make it through the better. Took a year to get some health back after retiring and first decision was a dog, and the second was a motorcycle. Truly nice being able to ride during the week while others are working. Enjoy, and be safe.

I retired in January, and it's amazing how the time has flown... it was definitely the right decision and at the right time.

We are in the process of moving from Northern AZ to Southern AZ... what a pain! I'm glad we're just moving across the state, not cross-country!

Shoot me a PM when you get settled... we can talk S&Ws, cars and bikes over a frosty beverage.

This sounds good! We are hoping to settle in either Vail, Benson or St David. We're not ruling out out Sierra Vista either but I'd like to be a half hour or so from Tucson as there is always something going on in Tucson and Sierra Vista may be a little further out than I want to be. I wouldn't want to live in Tucson though. I'm a country boy!

I lived 20 miles south of Willcox, Az. back in the seventies. Wonderful country, but probably inudated with the illegals coming into the country. I think Willcox was about 90 miles east of Tucson on I-10. I was in the Az. Army Reserve in Tucson at that time.

Are yous SURE???

Congratulations on the retirement. But are you sure you want to move to SOUTHERN Arizona??? I just visited the place and swore I wouldn't go back without a really good reason. My brother lives in the Prescott area. A little altitude makes a lot of difference in the temperature. Flagstaff is too dang cold. The middle of the state is just right.:)
