We normally BBQ steak once a week (occasionally twice) and over the past decade, Ribeye has been our choice of cut. I normally get them at Costco usually in a package of 4 but sometimes if very large they come 3 to a package. Last week I picked out a package of huge Ribeye's that looked outstanding but looks is many times deceptive. Tonight I BBQ'd them and I must say they were the best Ribeye's we have had in 10 years (anywhere)!

I worked my butt of today detailing my Yukon and man was it hot here! I think it hit 98º with a real feel of 109º, but after washing the vehicle outside in the driveway I pulled it into our 3 car garage which is air conditioned. Finishing up the last few hours was quite comfortable however the first 90 minutes outside was brutal! Anyway, I finished up and was looking forward to relaxing the rest of the afternoon. Then my cell phone rang and a neighbor down the street told me his Moen-Flo shut off valve had burst and water was spewing all over. I helped him out by replacing the broken devise with a new section of pipe and returned home. When my wife told me she took a steak out for dinner I was not happy! I was not in the mood to BBQ tonight as I was really beat! That said, like a nice guy, I did BBQ and man am I glad I did! Tonight's dinner was off the chart delicious. Usually Costco steaks are good but tonight's Ribeyes were just the one in a decade steaks & just melted in our mouths. I also thank the cow as well - lol!

Ribeye is my #1 choice but am turned off by thin over done steaks in most restaurants. I want to see a large piece of cap on my steak and in fact forgot about listing the Cap steak as my absolute favorite however rare they may be. I will make my own when purchasing a full or partial rib from the butcher, remove the Cap and eat it separately from the rib.
I was looking in the 50% off section at my local Safeway, where I often get some great deals for meat that doesn't fit our usual choice for quality but are a great deal anyway. I ran across a pair of T-Bones that had extra large tenderloin portions, practically Porterhouse we had those Sunday on the Traeger and were both highly pleased with the choice (NPI).

A good rib steak don't need anything but a bit of smoke from a grill to taste great. I hate it when people stick a bunch of "Special Rub" on a good marbled steak and it masks the real flavor.

I buy a whole beef off the Hutterites every year. Last one was an Angus, Semital cross

Perfect! Hope you relaxed with a good bourbon.
If course! You can't see the bourbon because it's in a charred oak bourbon "glass". I got a set from a friend and he sad it enhances the flavor. Truthfully - not really but it doesn't make it worse either. lol Not really on its side either - just came out here that way.

Oddly enough, the best steak I've ever had was from a chain place, "Mr.Steak". I never had a really bad one there, but the one was just perfect. They tended to undercook, which I can't handle, but that one was perfect. I've had steaks in Toledo, Columbus, Detroit, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Birmingham AL, Chicago, NYC, Washington D.C, Dallas, OK City, Panama City FL, and Pierre SD, and that one was the best. The closest one to it was about 1981 at the Golden Steer in Vegas a few months before I moved back to Toledo. It was about twice what the Mr. Steak one was a couple of years later. Last really good one I had was in Chicago a couple of years ago, most disappointing one was a Porterhouse with grilled onions I've had recently was in Toledo at Mancy's, a place known for steaks. All in all, a really disapointing dinner. It was done perfecly, but pretty tasteless, except for the salt and (IMHO) excessive pepper on it. I would have had a better meal at Lonestar for much less. Even the baked potato was "off". I asked and got hash browns at no charge, and they were great, but nowhere near the best of those I've had in the past. I bought a friend dinner for his birthday, and it was just a real dissapointment. His steak, a NY "bone in" strip was tasteless too. Both our steaks were $68.00 each and with the shrimp cocktails, drinks, etc, I shelled out over $200 for two "meh" dinners in Toledo.

At 100 years old, they should have it down by now:

My wife and I love to eat every week or two at the Longhorn steak house near us. It seems to taste better than any other Longhorn restaurant we've tried elsewhere and it's typically clean, quiet, relaxing, and has good service. We always split the boneless 12 oz Ribeye cooked medium well and the steak is typically closer to 15 or 16 ounces and with the vegetables and fresh bread it's the perfect amount of food for us and it costs only $24.99. We spend more money than that going to a sandwich or pizza joint. I've had some great Ribeye meals at some high dollar places but Longhorn beats about all of them.

I got the best steak in the world at Texas Roadhouse, no one ever said.
Flat top
Butter
Pat of butter when done
Best steak in your life

We only eat Ribeye, mostly at home. Longhorn's is our choice when we dine out for the Outlaw size. I buy standing prime rib roast when our market has them on sale and then cut them up to the size I prefer, usually 1" to 1 1/4". I've doing this for years and it makes for a freezer full of ribeye's!!
