Did I Move to the Netherlands?

Used to have an older retired customer who would bring his vehicle into the dealership a couple of times a week with vague complaints of squeaks and rattles. None of the techs could ever duplicate the issues. The customer would wander around drinking coffee and smoking a cigar, stopping to talk to anyone who would stop and listen. I told him there was no need to bring his car into service if he wanted to visit. I told him he was welcome to stop by and drink coffee and smoke cigars anytime he wanted. He finally confessed to me that he came by to get away from his wife. There are lots of lonely people out there only looking for somebody to talk to.

I had to lay off the alcohol on doctor's orders, but I still go out to service clubs where they set me up with unsweetened iced tea. My diabetes nurse practitioner made it a point to tell me it was good that I still went out to socialize. I still tip the servers like I was drinking beer. I figured they didn't have to suffer financially because of my medical issues.

The girls have moved out so it's just me & the wife here, and she works every day almost. I drove over to Columbus, Ohio last June to pick up a companion. Good German girl, also listens to everything I tell her, except when she doesn't. I'm kinda sick of people so another Weimaraner has been with me almost 24/7 since I brought her home! I refuse to be one of a group of guys in McDonalds every morning drinking Senior Coffees every day! I'm fine talking to my dog! I have a couple human friends. That's plenty. The beer distributor and the grocery store are my social visits, and Angel occupies the back seat!

That is sort of like old country stores but they are mostly gone. Only a couple left around here and they are to far away for me to drive to. So me and the dog visit a lot and he rides everywhere with me. The good friends I have left are to far for daily commutes. We text often. Best thing about texting IMO

Many was the time I would encounter some elderly who were appreciative of any social interaction while I walked a block or two to notify residents of loss of service while repairing water main leaks. Offers of coffee, ice cream and conversation were common. I would indulge for a few minutes and the folks were grateful and understanding when I had to be on my way.

Lots of good Weims in that part of Ohio. Mine chews ice cubes in the morning while I am drinking coffee, and then we walk for one and a half hours. Talk to several folks on the walk, they like him better than me.
