Was given this today by a friend He had bought an estate and in was in it. I have searched the internet and no luck, even checked ebay and again no luck There is no ZIP Code on the box so I am guessing before 1960 Any thoughts or guesses? It contains a glass bottle of rust inhibitor and a bottle of gun oil.

From the design, I would say 1930s, 1940s, or 1950s. Sook is apparently a Chinese family name, but absolutely nothing shows up in any type of search I have tried. Mystery box that will be tough to find information about unless someone has direct knowledge about the company.

I asked a friend that grew up on and still lives on Cape Cod. He has been a shooter for over 50 years in that area. He has never seen this either Due to the address he thinks before 1960.

Sook Gun Care

It was a gun oil kit sold by my father, Martin S. Papazian, in the late 1940s I believe, then repackaged and sold again in the early 1960s. This is the 1960s packaging. His nickname and business name was Sook. He paid me .5 cents apiece to fold the kit boxes. He paid my sister to label and put the bottles in the boxes. We did this in our basement at 123 Moreland Street, Worcester MA. My older sister designed the packaging.

Thank you very much for the information. Will print it out and keep it with the package.

Great ending for the question, one in a million . . . One more clue as to the age of the kit. In October, 1963 the USPS adopted the now standard 2 letter state designation. It was adopted quickly, so doubt that your father waited very long before changing the state initials on the labels.

Well, I must admit that I have never heard of Sook before. I started collecting Marbles gun cleaning kits about 40 years ago and still have a half dozen of them in great and pristine shape. One day you might see them here for sale as I have never used them and don't have the proper area to display them any longer.

I'd bet there are other small company's that made cleaning kits as well that the majority of us have never heard of.

chief38,

I have two rooms for collectable ammo boxes, cleaning kits, optics and almost anything collectable related to firearms. Someday my Daughter and Grandkids will be fussing when they have to get rid of it all when I take a dirt nap. But until then I will enjoy it.

I often think about selling things that I know my kids have absolutely no love loss or interest for. At almost 70 and in good health so I haven't quite gotten there yet, but I have been thinking about these things lately. My kids share very few of my hobbies and they would just be better off with the money than the items themselves. Just the sad truth. :(

Let me know if you would consider selling it to me. My family does not have any of those kits. It would be a great family history piece.
