A lot of us were raised eating 3 "squares" a day and at a set time. As we get older our needs change. Our daily lives also affect our eating habits.

For the purpose of this poll I'm defining a "meal" as when you stop what you are doing to just eat something. It might just be a piece of fruit, a slice of leftover pizza or something you take the time to make. It can also include takeout or dine-in as part of your daily routine.

I'll eat something when I feel "hungry". It's not about filling up on something but just to take the edge off until I actually have something substantial to eat. That is usually at some point in the evening. When it's hot outside I drink more fluids and eat less solid food.

Sorry but a sixpack doesn't count as a meal in this survey. :D

I used to be 2 meals a day, with some snacking, usually at night after dinner.

But, after my dad died of esophageal cancer in June, I became concerned with my ongoing issues with acid reflux and what that can result in down the road. So I went to a nutritionist who put me on a restrictive diet to reduce my acidity and calm down my digestive tract. She also recommended a probiotic, as well as drinking some aloe juice 2x day, and a supplement called "Slippery Elm," 3x day.

Big changes to my diet! The only protein I'm eating is chicken, turkey, and eggs (no beef, no pork, no fish…). The only vegetables are carrots, green beans and celery. The only fruit is cooked apples. I can have grains, rice, potatoes. No dairy, no gluten (no bread, etc.). I also cut out sugar (which was a big deal for me). So, very bland/restrictive diet. I expect that I'll be able to graduate to some additional food, I see her again next week.

I don't eat breakfast, and either no lunch, or very light lunch like a boiled egg, or just a couple of pieces of turkey breast and some raw carrots. Dinner is usually roast chicken, or chicken breast sautéed with some olive oil, garlic and S&P, along with rice or potato, and you guessed it, some carrots or green beans. I've really cut back on snacking. Maybe some rice crackers with a little honey, or carrots. I'm definitely eating much healthier, and not eating at restaurants much.

This is working great for me, after years and years of taking Omeprazole (for heartburn), I no longer need to take it! I'm not on any medication. I feel more energetic and clear headed, and after a month and a half I've lost over 15 pounds. I'm pretty much at the weight that I want to be at. I work out some, and my abs are busting through now…. .

It was an adjustment, but really, after the first week, or so, it gets easier. A lot of it is just habits associated with eating. Sugar was tough at first, but again, after a week or two it got better and now I don't crave it like I used to. I'm motivated to be healthy.

It depends on my nutritional needs.
Today was a workout day so I had a preworkout breakfast then after a workout, I'll have a protein drink then a supper with protein and carbs.
If I feel like I haven't had enough calories, I'll snack on low fat wheat crackers with peanut butter, high protein yogurt or something else.

Since I have been close to under weight for several years and was in and out of the hospital for a few years I frequently was confronted by nutritionists. They told me I should eat six small protein based meals a day so that I never went any longer than six hours without protein. So that's what I do.

1 large meal around 4 or 5pm. heavy protein and heavy fat. veggies. Low portion of simple carbs. If I really need a snack around noon Ill eat a very light low/no carb snack

So, a meal is when you stop snacking to eat something else? :D

My daily nutrition schedule is something like this:
A large (12-16 oz.) coffee when I get up around 0730, cream and sugar, of course. Maybe a cinnamon and sugar Pop Tart if I have time. Nothing until about 1000, when I have a pack of cheese crackers and a small Gatorade. At 1230, I have a pack of Nekot crackers, or maybe a ham and cheese on rye sandwich if I had time to make it when I got up, and another small Gatorade. Then nothing until about 1900, when I have a sit-down meal with my wife. That's usually a meat and two vegetables, with a glass of tea or maybe a beer to wash it down.

I manage to maintain my girlish figure (42 not-even-an-A-cup 36-36) and weight of 188 on this diet.

I tried going on a diet but I felt terrible, weak and irritable all the time. So I tried another diet, but still didn't feel very well. Tried a third diet and started feeling and functioning much better.

In my case three diets seems to be just about right.

A former coworker of mine could take 30min to eat a donut. That's pretty extreme but his point was to eat "small" and often. That's why I will snack during the day and have a more sizeable meal in the evening. I can't stand going to bed somewhat hungry for fear that I'll wake up and one pillow will be missing.

What a lot of you will consider a side dish is often all I'll eat for a meal. A mixed salad bag from the market is fine once or twice a week. I'll cook a packet of Knorr Side Dishes (rice/broccoli) for a satisfying meal. Another treat for me is a large baked potato lathered with butter and sour cream.

I feel like I eat healthy but it can take a week to get all the food groups in.

Three meals a day for me. A small breakfast, a small lunch, and then a decent-sized dinner.

About ten years ago I lost sixty pounds. I went from 240 to 180. I average about 177. I'm not tall (5'7") but stocky. Now I need to be diligent to keep my weight down, because I could easily put it back on, and I threw away all my fat clothes. So I came up with rules, such as no between-meal snacks, no seconds, and nothing between dinner and bed. The only snack I allow myself is Skinny-Pop popcorn or a few tortilla chips.

My favorite foods are still milk, chocolate, and ice cream. Instead of not having them at all, I keep a small amount of ice cream on hand, and eat a spoonful every now and then. When my weight gets down to 175 or 176, I reward myself with a day of eating whatever I want, regardless of the calorie content. This happens every couple weeks, and I can live with that.
