We are back for another episode in the perpetual discussion over the best (guns, calibers, loads) for defense against bears. This time I ask that responses be limited to the circumstances of this reported situation:

1. Black bear
2. Indoors
3. In a luxury hotel
4. In the kitchen
5. Security guard has already been knocked flat on his keister by the bear.

So, any experienced commentators? Any tongue-in-cheek observations?

Please keep in mind that the location is Aspen, Colorado, a resort destination for celebrities, international whiners, and snowflakes of every description, so please be gentle and considerate of all emotional needs.

Ray, I am surprised that you had to ask that question. Remember it's Aspen; all anyone needed to do was light a Doobie and invite Mr. Bear to join them, and "Chill out."

Stay out of the kitchen. The chef has it covered...

Bear... It's what's for dinner!

Let us not confuse Aspen with Boulder. A doobie fits the Boulder scenario, but Aspen probably requires a couple lines of good coke, maybe a nice California chardonnay.

Wonder how the Department of Health and Environment is gonna write up that restaurant inspection??

Who left the door open?

"Just give the bear whatever it wants and it will be nice to us."

Ray, now-now- we both know better than to touch that with a 10 foot pole. Big smile, my friend.

The bear lost. He got euthanized. For being a bear. *sigh*

Did the security guy go down there knowing there was a bear? Did they see him on camera first?

They needed a mental health care professional, or psychic to communicate with the poor creature and determine why it was so grumpy. Of course that would require extensive meetings, of course funded by the DNR.

OK, I am enjoying the fun posts above. But, to get on subject (Lobo asked) the only round I would consider adequate for an angry bear, indoors, close range, that has already attacked someone is a magnum slug out of a 12 gauge in the hands of an experienced shooter, and a couple follow-ups. No pistols need apply. Serious business. Although it may be assumed they used a dart, followed by a syringe, obviously effective.
