Till now my rig was a P365 in the front pocket. With many things seeming to go from bad to worse I've added a spare magazine in the other pocket

I never carry a spare mag on the same side that I carry my handgun on . Can't do a mag swap smoothly and quickly . Horizontal on your belt is a good option for shorter mags .

Just this summer I got lazy and went the other way. After 30 years of always having a reload on me, I started just toting my 365 and it's 11-round payload.

Since I carry the spare in my offhand front pocket, it does free up some room and is a good bit more comfortable, but I'm having mental gymnastics about it. It goes against my nature. Having a 12-rd spare in the truck isn't the same thing.

When I OWB carry my P365 I always have an extra magazine in a belt pouch. When I pocket carry I just place an extra 10 round magazine in my other front pocket.

Costco Union Bay Cargo Shorts are fantastic and carry lots without showing! Surprisingly enough, a magazine in the pocket is relatively comfortable to carry bare.

I was originally using a soft thin eyeglass pouch for the spare mag, but it just slows down a reload and is not really needed. Maybe for dress pants, but that's a seldom happening. My normal garb is now a pair of cargo shorts and a Tee shirt with a pair of Sperry Gold Cups.

My real point of the thread is that for me things seem more dangerous - leading to the spare magazine

Same here brother.

It's getting real interesting here in western Washington. Our leaders have allowed things to go from bad to worse.

Home invasions, armed robbery, car jacking, random shootings etc…….. And no consequences.

I put my LCP Max back in the safe and grabbed my Glock 19. Spare 21 round mag in the pocket.

Overkill? Maybe. But I'm not interested in what others think. I'm older. I'm white. I drive a newer car. I'm a target.

I think you are wise. Not limited to WA either.

Even though my S&W 6946 is loaded with 12 rounds in the magazine plus one in the chamber, I carry a spare magazine. You just don't know what you don't know and it's better to have it and not need it than to find you need it and not have it.

Am in winter rotation mode. G23 in front pocket, and spare 22 rd mag in off side tool pocket of carhart overalls (velcro tab sewed on over top of tool pocket).

Always carry a spare magazine in case of a malfunction. Dropping the mag and cycling the slide then reloading with a spare mag is generally the quickest way to get back into the fight. As a civilian that prides himself in my low risk lifestyle I will probably never need my sidearm, let alone a reload. But I still carry both every day. Cheap insurance in a harsh world!

I bought a couple of these when I was working. they're not much bigger than an IPone. I still use one

My EDC is a 5 shot J-frame, with a 8 shot speed strip in a belt carrier. If the survival itch between my shoulder blades gets itchy, I go to M&P9c +a mag. If the itch requires more scratching than that, it requires a long gun and a change of plans (like don't go there or don't stay here!) I like 12 gauge, I don't like PCC's for problems. Just so you know, it is a felony to have a loaded long gun in a car in Ohio (including SBR's), but I can have 20 handguns without any question (including a full auto MAC-10 & silencer)!

I see a New York Reload as a better option than a third magazine.

I carried a spare mag to my Sig .45 when I was working. Never needed it and never carried spare ammo since I retired.

The other day I bought what I thought was a pocket holster for a little gun. It turned out to be a mag holder.

The other mag for my EDC Sig P210 Carry is a nice fit.

If civil disobedience breaks out in my little mountain town I may carry it.

Until I find a case where an old retired copper (or anyone else) actually needing a reload in a non-LEO shooting I'll probably leave it at home. Anyone know of one?

Yea, it's ironic that back 40+ years ago when I carried a Chief's Special I felt perfectly protected with the 5 in the gun and 6 in a belt loop carrier. Today's world and the new type of criminals we are seeing have no regard for human life and have no issues about murdering for no reason. Gang activity has also been steadily rising and while 11 rounds may have been perfectly fine before, I no longer get that same warm & fuzzy feeling.

Today it's a P365 with 11 onboard plus another 10, 12, or 17 round magazine in reserve. I hope and pray never to find out if I needed the extra but it's nice to know it's there if I do.

Glad to see you're carrying that fine pistol. Thought it might end up in a safe.

As some have said here, the extra mag is more for a malfunction. Twice on the job I had partners that had the magazine fall out of their service weapon on gun runs. Both incidences as they drew their weapons. One partner seamlessly drew a spare mag and reloaded while we faced a man with a rifle. Both times the mag drop was inexplicable. Both partners were capable shooters and gun handlers. Since then, I always carry an extra mag on my person when carrying a semi auto pistol.
Also, I always carry a reload or two no matter what gun I'm carrying. Speed strips and speedloaders get dropped at the worst possible time. You are not going to retrieve them in the middle of a confrontation. especially in the dark or while running. Or in the snow. Also, I carry extra for the "Ferguson" effect. In many (If not most) large cities police response times can be spotty at best. If I'm injured or car is immobilized I would like to be able to top off my weapon till the cavalry arrives. The bad actors around here sometimes have a backup car cruising nearby to help escape. I don't want to face their "posse" with a half empty gun...as the "posse" sometimes arrives before police. I must also say that I carry a Glock 26 and an extra 15 round mag. I'm of a size that that it is not inconvenient to do so and do so comfortably. Just my 2 centavos.
