Added a spare magazine to my rig

If civil disobedience breaks out in my little mountain town I may carry it.

Maybe I'm crazy but if Civil Disobedience breaks out in my slightly larger on the edge of the mountains town I'm staying at home

In the era of social media and flash mobs, you can't always predict when and where a riot may occur.

As stated above I've used a horizontal mag pouch for 30 years. The safariland 123 is good for double stack mags. Good for that extra mag in the center car/truck console protect the mag lips and easy to add to your belt.

Lately, I found some elastic, slip on the belt, mag holders on Amazon for like 2/$10 slid one/two on my Wilderness tactical Frequent Flyer belt and add or remove the mag(s) as needed/wanted. easy peasy. Great for the single stack 3913 mags; my most common EDC.

Motain "LUAATT Horizontal mag concealed carrier..." on Amazon

Also good for a small flashlight

I think it's always good to have at least one spare magazine.

Personally, I carry two spare magazines plus a BUG.

My real point of the thread is that for me things seem more dangerous - leading to the spare magazine

Understandable. I think that at least one spare mag is necessary if you have your onboard magazine go belly up. May not be likely but it is a possibility...

I've taken to mostly carry my SIG 229 in 9mm with one 15 onboard and a spare 18 rounder on my belt.

I wouldn't carry my spare in the other front pocket but if that's what works for you, then that's the answer.

When I only carried J-Frames it was Two. I also carried reloads for both. Things seem to be getting crazier so I carry a semi auto and a J-Frame now. Reloads for both. Sometimes several reloads.

The more the merrier. I always carry a spare mag. In the last 3 years I've added a long gun. Never go to town without a 12ga or an AR. Fun times we're in.

Once LEOs moved away from revolvers, the tendency has been to emphasize magazine capacity.

Certainly there have been instances where the bad guys had more fire power than the good guys and the good guys suffered for it.

But remember that the incidents that the surplusage made a difference were all LEO involved. I know of no such incidents involving civilians.

The point is that if you're a LEO on duty an extra magazine is a good idea. If you're a civilian, it's likely to be more trouble than it's worth.

Why would a spare mag be more trouble?

Where have you been the last few years? There have been numerous shootings around the country where multiple rounds were expended. Actually more than numerous. It's an epidemic. And quite often there are numerous shooters.

And comparing cops to civilians is unrealistic. Cops have a few distinct advantages such as calling for backup and drawing their guns simply by suspecting trouble. Civilians can't do those things. We're on our own. So why wouldn't one carry more ammo?

I'm a southpaw. I found many years ago that a single stack Mag in a leather sheath slips nicely in the watch pocket of my Levi's, and their is one (or a speed strip for revolver) there all the time. Very easy to carry, doesn't cause any issues with using that pocket for keys and stuff while the strong side pocket carry's my weapon. Works great for J frame, Sig 938 or even 1911 Mag if I'm belt carrying that.
