My Great Nephew "Kylian", who is about to turn 17 years old, is taking welding classes in High School. He gets to spend two hours a day building up his welding skills, and his Instructors allow him to make special projects. He fabricated for me some Falling Plates, 6" in diameter, 3/8" mild steel, strong enough to be pistol targets.

We set them up to be shot from 30, 40, and 50 feet. Competitors start with loaded pistols in a holster, at the "Fire!" command, draw and shoot three orange targets, then the center white target. Whoever knocks over the white target first is the winner. Same drill at 30, 40 and 50 feet.....

Here's a link to me and the Kylian going "Head to Head", me shooting a CZ-75B, he a Rock Island .45 1911:

After a few rounds of this, I noted Kylian was very accurate with the Rock Island 1911, all of his first shots fired after the draw were hitting the target in the same spot. Pretty good shooting:

Kylian has been shooting this pistol for about three years now, and has gotten quite good with it. I can't beat him, haven't been able to beat him for the last year or so. The things we learn to do when we are young build a foundation that can't be duplicated later in life....

Great thread. And good for him. The world will always need a good welder! Read my recent post. I will never shoot steal again unless its a falling plate rack.

Some of the best competition that I have ever had was shooter vs shooter like you are doing. See if he can make you a dueling tree to shoot, they are also a hoot. I have a small one for .22 LR are we enjoy shooting it.
