Primer Sticker Shock

A couple weeks ago, I sat down and loaded 100 .358 Winchester cartridges. I used a brick of CCI LR primers from my "stash" that had a price tag on the box of $9.99. Probably from the late 70's?

A pack rat mentality, and gasketed .50 cal ammo cans makes for some money saving long term storage....:)

Nah, those aren't antique. Those prices are more recent than 25 years ago. Heck, I bought some for under $20 a brick just 5 or 6 years ago.

Was just in a LGS today here in WA. $14.95 for CCI SRP.:eek: Most the primers I see are running between $70 and $90 per thousand.

Those are brick boxes (1000 primers per box).

I stocked up not long before the pandemic for about $22 per thousand. I thought that was high. Glad I'm not trying to buy at 70-90$.

Is that $14.95 per HUNDRED?!? If so, someone hasn't updated their pricing in a while.

The going rate on the 'net for SRPs right now is more in the $60-$80 per brick range.

So $14.95 per hundred / $149.50 per brick is the height of last year's pricing (maybe next year's too based on recent announcements - time will tell).

I just wish I could find some LRPs for under $100 a brick...

AZ/CA
$22/brick =pre-pandemic
$200/brick =height of the pandemic
$125/brick =after the first 1.5years of COVID
$70/brick =about a year ago
$90-100/brick =last month

That’s correct.

So was the $14.95 per hundred or per thousand? The cost on the ones I posted were for the brick (1000) not a pack (100).

In the late 90’s early 2000’s I remember paying $70 for a case of 5000 SPP my how times have changed

I think it was about 2019 or 2020 that I paid $125 a case of 5000. Yes, times have changed. The LGS would buy estates and just wanted the guns. We bought all the reloading equipment in a lump. We figured we were paying $10.00 a brick for those.

Anyone buying primers at current prices has more $ than brains!

It's still cheaper than factory ammo in most cases, and what are they supposed to do? Quit shooting?

I had a stash like many here but it won't last forever. I hope I've got another 20 years of shooting. I'm not storing 100,000 primers in my house.

AJ - Thats a brick of 1000 CCI LR primers for $9.99. Only needed 100 primers to load 100 rounds, so figure 99 cents per 100 pack. Inexpensive, I guess, but they didn't seem so 45 years ago.
