If anyone would just happen to have some Sierra .38/.357 158 gr. JSP listed as .357" I would greatly appreciate someone taking an actual diameter measurement of a few with a micrometer or quality calipers. Thanks.

What measurement are you interested in..? Diameter is 0.356.

After measuring couple of those I am surprised at the .356, maybe Sierra should explain that.

I asked for this same help on another site. FWIW, one fellow's mic read.357" and another guy measured about 10....3565"-.357"

This world is not perfect and some barrels are not all the same dia.

I have one picture of a 9mm test, where they actually used a light .38 cal , JHP bullet, in their test
from a Ransom rest, with 50 round, groups.

My question and request concerned chamber throats and jjrr gave me what I needed.

I have some 125 gr sierras and they measure about .3565 and some 45 tournament masters that are exactly 0.4515 as marked. I got my mics with the vernier out of my cold shop and when they warm up some I am going to take some more measurements but I don’t expect anything different.

If you want an accurate reading on a bullet diameter, a good micrometer is the only instrument to use. The measurement will be approximate if using a caliper.

With jacketed bullets, the diameter is often not critical for good accuracy. Slightly undersize will often work as well as full diameter.
