Model 10. Finally!

Being called a bit nutty would be one of the nicer things I've been called, lol. I know the scallop is for a speed loader, and it was actually fairly well done. I'm just not that fond of the aesthetics. Besides, I'm at an age where if six rounds doesn't get me out of trouble, then I let myself get in more trouble than I should have in the first place.

I have a 10-5 that I got from a friend in a trade. It was pretty well worn from use, some wear and a few scratches, and a pencil engraved inventory number. Originally it belonged to his grandfather who had a job with a security company, but when he got older, had a hard time qualifying with it.
Having difficulty seeing the front sight he asked a friend to coach him. That friend was Jim Leavelle, a Dallas detective, who painted the sight with white nail polish. Leavelle was the detective handcuffed to Oswald when he was shot by Ruby and the gun still has the white polish on the sight.

I thought that I had overpaid for this 2" RB M&P, c. 1958, at $400 OTD. I have since learned that I didn't pay too much, just too early.

Found this nice pre-10 M&P on another forum, had to get it. A pair of newer rounded grips came on it, not original, so I substituted some 2nd-party repro cokes to fit my hand better. My birthday S&W. It shipped the month before I was born.

I want to thank the people who tell what they paid. It's good to know what these things are going for, in case one ever comes my way. Sounds like ~$400 is the going rate.

Maybe 10 years ago. I doubt you'll find anything except shooters in that range these days unless the seller is unfamiliar with the market. Refinished and Good Condition 4" M&P's are selling for around $400 around here. The 2" barrels are selling above that. The Standard Catalog of S&W 4th Edition, published 8 years ago, lists "Good Condition" M&P's at $300 with a 25% premium for 2" barrels. That valuation has increased quite a bit since then.

I got it out this morning and noticed that it does indeed have the rounded bottom PC style stocks. The angle of the photos threw it off. The number stamped inside the right side is 630678, which doesn't match anything on the gun. If it helps to narrow down the date and type of stocks it should have, the full serial no. is C450585.
