I have 3 5967’s, 4 5903SSV’s and 4 5943SSV’s. A 5906SSV would have been a great additionally variant!

Cheers!!!

But as far as I can tell a 5967 IS essentially a 5906SSV - same blue slide on similar frames - both of my pistols date from early 1990 with squared trigger guard and Novak sights

I have always thought the 5903SSV was sort of an afterthought to S&W when certain leftover frames and parts were available for assembly. The frames I have seen look like they were stamped 5903 normally and the SSV was etched later - just my opinion.

I expect that you know that the 5967 was made for Lew Horton. Stainless frame, blued slide, 3 1/2"barrel.

My guess is that Lew Horton wanted a unique model number.
Or, maybe as they often seemed to do S&W forgot how they numbered 3rd Gens.. ;)

The 5903SSV probably should have been a 5963 the 6 denoting a non standard barrel length.

If they used a 6906 frame, it could have been a 6907, I suppose.

I now have both pistols - only difference I can see is 5967 Stainless frame vs 5903SSV Aluminum frame. So why not 5906SSV instead of oddball 5967 nomenclature? What am I missing?
