Britain's King Charles has cancer, per numerous news stories tonight. It was discovered when he underwent treatment a week or so ago for an enlarged prostate. Buckingham Palace hasn't issued many details at this time, so we don't know what type of cancer he has, how serious it is, or what treatment is planned for it.

Anticipating the reaction from some of you to this news, let me say this:

I'm not a particular fan of the Royal Family, but I've always felt sorry for Charles. This poor guy has never been able to live a normal life. He's been in a bubble since he was a kid, unable to do the things the rest of us take for granted. No drives in the country...no motorcycle trips...no going out with a friend and quaffing a few quietly at the local pub. He can't get on a cruise ship, or fly somewhere and rent a car to do some sightseeing.

His whole life has been scripted, orchestrated, regimented, so that one day he could assume the throne...and now, less than two years after his coronation, he's got the Big C...wow. :(

Prayers and best wishes for your recovery, King Charles...good luck.

Unlike his brother Prince Andrew, who could pal around with Jeffrey Epstein and apparently loved the "company" of underage girls, and their feet.
They are a stellar family. He was a wonderful dad to his son that he wouldn't talk to at the funeral, or give any respect to.
My heart just bleeds.

Thanks for validating my pre-emptive comment when I started this thread...your compassion for a cancer patient is truly moving.

I wonder: Has it occurred to you that perhaps his failed relationship with Harry is related to the fact that he didn't get the upbringing needed to prepare him for fatherhood?

(And, by the way, Harry left for Britain upon getting the news...so I suspect there will be a reconciliation.)

As someone who lost their mother and first wife to cancer, he has my sympathy and best wishes for a successful outcome. While not my favorite royal, he is not a person I dislike enough to wish cancer upon them.

I had my first cancer operation (of three) on my 38th birthday in March of 1991. I remember every detail of that experience, especially coming to grips with the possibility that I might leave two little boys without their father.

Cancer sucks. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

As one who survived a very bad case of prostate cancer — inoperable Stage 4, Gleason 10 — I send my best wishes for King Charle's full recovery.

I am not English, nor am I a Brit royal groupie, but I think Charles has had a difficult life, and does his best to fulfill his obligations to his family and his country. And I think he succeeds in this.

Best wishes sent for a swift recovery.

"Now, less than two years after his coronation",....

Beemerguy, you are off just a bit, his coronation was 9 months ago, today! Well less than two years.

None of us is guaranteed tomorrow. It is unfortunate for King Charles III, but no different than if it were any one of us! Not only is the concept of royalty anachronistic, it is disgusting! They are no better than anyone else, if you don't know this READ THE BOOK!!:(:(

Can you please list your top ten for that evil wish?
Was raised to offer a prayer for despicable people in the
hope that they may find a better path.....
or a keel haul. :D

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer 25?...27? years ago...I've forgotten now exactly when it was, but it was still 19XX. I elected to "cut it out" right from the start. It's funny. I don't feel like a cancer survivor. I never had any symptoms. Even my PSA's were "good." The "problem" that took me to the doctor wasn't considered to be a symptom of cancer at the time. I understand it is now (blood in my semen). "Let's do a biospy to eleminate that possibility." "Guess what? You beat the odds."

Anyway. I'm pretty much neutral on (earthly) kings and such, but I wish the king well, and may the Lord touch him and heal him, if that is His will.

Royal families can be just as dysfunctional as any other family, European, British history is full of rulers and heirs apparent who clashed repeatedly, did not get along. Charles was formally installed as Prince of Wales in 1969, he was heir apparent for 53 years, that's like being an understudy in a long running play.

I forget the exact way the stats were given about prostate cancer. It's either 70% by age 75 or 75% by age 70. The latter was about when I was diagnosed. Some of you younger folks might bear that in mine with respect to compassion.

While not a groupie of royalty, the king did have a lengthy and, per accounts, good career in the Royal Navy. One of the younger royals flew combat missions in the Falkland Island dispute.
