Police Officer Murdered in Sheridan, WY Today UPDATE AT POST 29

Perhaps a LEO can comment on this? These 2 shootings stemmed from a simple trespass complaint. They weren't robbing a bank. They weren't kidnappers or murderers. Worse case scenario they're guilty of trespassing. Is it just me or are suspects just willing to shoot for any reason? Are they completely numb to taking a life? Or in this age of instant news do we just hear about everything so it seems like more violent criminals?

Lots of people who carried without permits when they were required. Laws don't stop bad, mad, or crazy. A guy who will up and shoot a LEO over something like a trespass don't care what the law says. I do believe murdering police officers has been a capital offense in most places and yet it still happens far to often . The blood in the streets predictions over permitless carry has not been the case at least as of yet

Indiana went to constitutional carry? about 2 years ago. While my friends didn't agree, I thought it was a stupid mistake. Now than ever people from Chicago are moving here and it's turning into the wild west.

It's gonna get worse :( The ongoing fallout of the Bruen decision coupled with more and more carry without a permit states will mean more and more people carrying who, although not prohibited by law, should not be carrying.

While what you say may be a factor, my thoughts are that nobody takes "no" for answer any more. LE is seen as the unacceptable face of the truth that society can say "no" to you. Some people are prepared to open up on anyone they see as a threat to their sense of control. LE enforcing a trespass notice is the perfect example.

I don't blame the tool. But I will blame judges and...dare I say it...defense lawyers. If not for them the animals could be confined to cages, and the poor innocent soul would be going home to his family at the end of his shift. But I have to admit, being the father of a State Trooper does influence my opinion on this matter.

Those seeking their 15 minutes of fame by killing a cop won't be impressed by the image of themselves falling through a hole in the gallows, their necks breaking, some faint body tremors, and piss running down their leg.

Witnessing a few of those images and those "heroes " may decide to find another way to reach their moment of fame.

UPDATE: The siege is over after nearly 30 hours. They had to nearly tear down the house he was barricaded in. Brought in a track hoe and commenced to tear off the roof. That flushed him out. And it wasn't his house. It belongs to people he didn't even know him so now they're homeless. Here's the story:

One other thing. Word on the street is there was a scuffle and the perp got the officer's gun. I don't know details but he apparently didn't have one of his own. Perp also had a lengthy criminal history. Not that it really matters in the end. Very sad event.

They should make them wear diapers. Maybe nothing but a diaper. With suspenders so it won't fall off.

...and again somebody will be out a house because of limited liability and LE's policy that is always confront and control, rather than wait them out. Maybe somebody should calculate the cost of the perp's likely prison time. I have little doubt it would be many times the cost of fixing the heavily damaged home.

Using the exact same kind of reasoning that concludes that more of this stuff will happen because of permitless carry, one could say that this cop would still be alive if he had not been carrying one of those evil guns.

Once again thee problem was a human and not an object

Yet, data clearly show that the homicide rate in Indianapolis fell by 7% in 2023

Seems so. Carjackers in Chicago have been shooting at their victims after they have
"Just give[n] them what they want".

I'm all for making the hangings public. After my girls got their DL's I took them to a couple fatal crashes (after the bodies were removed). Seeing is believing...

Indy is 150 miles from me in the center of the state. I live in Lake Co. the furthest N.W. in the state you can go. The county is a Democratic pit, unlike the rest of my red state. I'm 3 miles from the state line and 25 miles from Chicago. You can bet my local homicide stats are not on the decline. Constitutional carry has robbed law enforcement of an important tool. If you were stopped by police and had a gun and no permit off to jail you went. Obtaining a carry permit is no more invasive than filing out a 4473. I suspect 95% of my new neighbors couldn't pass the background check for a permit.

It's very peculiar times we are living in.

There seems to be no regard for human life.
The common man is at risk, our lawmen are
under attack at every turn.

Back in my day, my FTO told me in every contact
with anyone, there is always a firearm or weapon present.

We all should pray for the safety of our first responders,

Might St. Michael watch over them.

"Rot in prison" ? As a congressman said after Jeffery Dahmer got his, "He
was sentenced to 3 meals a day, a place to sleep, medical care, recreational and educational opportunities....."
It wasn't so much in the old days there was greater respect for human life-yesterday was the 95th anniversary of the events in Chicago on February 14, 1929-rather some people's lives are too precious and valued. Hence we are required to accept and tolerate their behavior and existence.

I think Caj was being sarcastic.

As for tearing down the house, we would pay that in a heartbeat; that's what our municipal insurance is for, and we would be paying for temporary shelter too. Cost of doing business.

I don't know what drove the decision to force him out, so I can't critique it. I do know that with the moronic anti-cop pro-criminal legislation in this state, we have a real shift to the extent that offender well being is valued more than that of cops and private citizens. Between that and the simillarly moronic gun laws, I expect to retire elsewhere.
