This morning I attended a small show in Vegas; unfortunately, I came out empty handed. Not to be defeated, I headed to Bass Pro, one of my local fishing holes.

While searching the used gun section, I spotted a cherry 3rd Gen 4536…meh, never even heard of a 4536. Being only interested in 10mm 3rd gens, I moved to the reloading isle. While looking for 44 spl components, something made me Google 4536. Hmmm, it appears they were only made for a year, 1991, and only 736 were produced. A unicorn, of which I am the new custodian. Came with 5 factory mags and the owner's manual. :)

Nice find. I'd forgotten about that model. Sure didn't know that is was produced in such a small number. I owned one for a bit years ago.

That's a beauty, but no safety? I thought all 3rd gen S&W's had one, or at least a decocker lever. Or is this DA only?

First off, a GREAT FIND! Very cool, seldom encountered 3rd. Gen for anyone's collection…

Back in the day, it seemed the Factory was spitting out a differently configured 3rd. Generation pistol every month- almost like "let's see what sticks…". As a result, some were produced in ridiculously small numbers.
Here's part of the often encountered Lucky Gunner chart to help decipher 3rd. Generation pistols.

Great find - Sig style frame mounted decocker most commonly seen on xx26 models

I've noticed that. The only other 3rd gen with frame mounted decocker i own is my 1076. Are there any other XX36s?

Thanks!
Very helpful

There was a recall on those, some issue with the de-cocker as I recall. You might want to call and check on that.
Please post answer if you call SW.
I thought recall was only 10xx maybe only 1076. Now you are going to make me do more research and dig my 5924, 5926, 6926 out and look for punch marks under lever like my 1076. Think I will post question as new thread.

Best, Ed
