When we moved up here nearly 4 years ago I had a 4-car garage built. I only have one car as wife doesn't drive any more, but this was my last chance to have the garage of my dreams. I have room for my car, my riding lawnmower, my golf cart, all my yard and garden equipment with plenty of space for my workshop area. A nice work bench, rolling tool cabinet, lots of shelf space. and lots of floor space to work in. In the time since I first set it up I have never done a complete clean up and replace everything back where it belongs. TODAY WAS THE DAY. I found drill bits, sockets and assorted tools I haven't seen in 2 years. I found some tools I haven't seen for so long that I don't even remember buying them. I like the way it all looks....if only it would stay that way. Sigh...

You didn't happen to find my 10MM socket did ya?

My friend has what I refer to as the Garage-mahal. The bottom is large enough for 4 vehicles (two per side) with a 10 foot 'ceiling'. Actually, the ceiling is 12 or 14 inch steel I-beams to support the machine shop that is located on the second floor. The machine shop has a drill press, mill, lathe, radial arm saw, miter saw, 5hp 12" table saw and 3hp router table. Both floors are heated and the upstairs is also air conditioned. It is built into a hill so even though the bottom doesn't have a/c, it remains quite cool in the warmer months. There is a well stocked refrigerator and a bathroom as well with hot and cold water. There's also WiFi and cable. An 8 foot section of the top floor is removable so large items can be raised and lowered between the two floors with an air operated hoist.

All in all, not too shabby!

I seem to recall a coworker saying that a tidy desk is the sign of a sick mind. ;)

Every 4 or 5 weeks, I would set out on an expedition to see if I could find the surface of my desk. When I was off for my stroke, my secretary informed me it took her hours to find it just dumping thing in a box, and NEVER do that to her again!!

Now that you've had a training run, come do my garage shop.
It's only a two-car, so it should be a piece of cake for you.
Anything I don't recognize, you can keep. :D:D:D

I guess I will forego taking any photos. Without any before shots, the scope and complexity of the project is lost. I have never been known as a neat freak. Compulsive neatness I don't suffer from. Things just got to the point that I was unable to do anything in such a complete shambles. I recommend an annual effort to maintain control but I seriously doubt I will ever do that again myself. I will TRY to clean up and replace tools and equipment after every project but, well....you know.

Memories of Cleaing the Garage

When growing up Dad had 32 foot square garage with 10 foot ceiling.

The garage and work bench got ab annual ritual cleaning and organization every Memorial Day morning.

This ritual was in preparation for our listening to the Indianapolis 500 race.

It has been many years, but I still have the memories and some of his tools.

Bekeart.
