Howdy

Earlier this week I traded into a cherry Lipseys Exclusive 4.62” Ruger Bisley 44 spl. Today I attended a show in Chattanooga, where I picked up, what has turned out to be, a Vaquero Sheriff’s model (00512), 1 of 1000 made for Accusport, in 2000. The finish is bright, polished stainless, barrel 3 5/8”, flat cylinder pin and grips are faux ivory with Ruger logo etched at the bottom. As a bonus, it came with a 45 acp cylinder; not sure if it was fit by Ruger or someone else.At $1050 I probably gave to much for it, but I couldn’t find any info at the time - nothing on GB. Oh, well all that matters is I am content with my find.

Can't say about the Vaquero, maybe a special run through someone like Lipseys? That .44 spl is about the perfect belt gun for roaming the woods. I think they are using the .357 mag flat top sized frame on that one?

I think they made the change in frame size in 2005, with the “new” Vaquero. I agree with you on the utility of the 44 spl as a woods gun.

I handled a couple Rugers the other day. Smooth as silk. Not quite as nice as those in OP! But used and solid and not a rattle or anything. A Super Blackhawk in 44mag, and a 45LC Vaquero. Should've bought them both, but, why!?? They were worth asking price, IMO.

Over the last 50 years I have had several "Two Ruger Weeks" and twice have had "Two Rugar Days". Both of those days were pairs of original model Vaqueros in Polished Stainless with 4" barrels. One pair was 45 Colt the other was 44-40. I already had a pair of Blue 5.5" Bisley Vaqueros in 45 Colt. These guns are a little heavy but are so much more durable than the Single Action Army design.

My "Two Ruger Weeks" involved a rifle and handgun or two rifles and were a different dealers.

While the Rugers will handle very heavy loads I have enjoyed 45 Colt with 220 grain RNFP bullets and 6.7 grains of WW231. 45 ACP with 200 grain RNFP and 5.5grains of WW 231 and 44 Special with 205 grain RNFP bullet and 5.0 grains of WW231. These loads have proven very accurate and having components in common have simplified my supply side issues.

Vaquero update:

Ruger/Acusport Vaquero Sheriff's Model - SASS Wire - SASS Wire Forum

“There's more of a difference than just a shorter barrel. The cylinder base pin is flat (a real pain to remove) and the scrimshawed ivory grips are unique from other Vaquero models. It also has a unique catalog and model number (00512) from a "regular" large frame Vaquero. I found this info posted on the Ruger forum:

"That is a Acusport special distributor model that Ruger made for them. Here's what I have on the stainless as well as its blue counterpart (from my reference):
BNV-453SI and KBNV-453SI “Sheriff’s” model with black Ruger eagle logo scrimshawed at bottom of each grip. Known s/n range 57-82829 (tel:57-82829) to 57-82861 (tel:57-82861) (BNV-453SI) and 57-72287 to 57-84341 (tel:57-84341) (KBNV-453SI). 1,000 of each produced(?) for Ruger distributor Acusport."
Given the small number produced, this should be a collectable item. This is more info than I had yesterday. Maybe this will be useful for others that have the Sheriff's Model Vaquero.”

“My favorite all-around Ruger SA. This is a large frame Vaquero (model# 00512, Cat# KBNV-453-SI) It is commonly referred to as a "Sheriff's Model", with a 3-5/8" barrel. It was an Accusport exclusive. It has hands down the best trigger of any of my Ruger revolvers. When I got it, it had aftermarket fake ivory grips on it, instead of the fake ivory grips with the riuger logo it should have had. I still have those grips but it is currently wearing grips from Altamont.”

Looks like the spare cylinder was fitted sometime after it left Ruger. Don’t know if it was sent back to Ruger to have one fit or by someone else. Either way a cool piece.

Hopefully, I’ll hang on to it for a while.
