How do you carry your CSX

I'm not talking about holsters but rather the state at which you carry your CSX. Do you carry with a round in the chamber, "cocked and locked", one in the chamber hammer down, or chamber empty and hammer down (of course). The reason I'm asking is because it just seems to me it would be difficult to put into action unless carried cocked and locked which not everyone is comfortable with. With one in the pipe and the hammer down you need to cock the hammer manually which isn't going to be easy to do one handed. I am not knocking the gun. I'm just curious how others are doing it.

This really is a personal preference issue regardless of the carry myths circulating around this issue.

Here is the best article I've ever read on the subject, and I've saved it for over a decade... The Thinking Gunfighter: THE MYTHS OF THE ISRAELI METHOD OF CARRY, or why carrying chamber empty isn’t so bad.

I hope you enjoyed the article.

I must admit my CC choice is C1 in a DAO pistol (3953/4053). I do carry a Walther PPS in 9mm or .40S&W when wearing dress pants with a dress belt in C1.

I find it amusing that the author states that, anyone should be able to rack their slide one handed while fighting off an attacker. Really, show me. I have had this discussion with many people and nobody has been able to show me yet. This discussion normally revolves around clearing a jam one handed but same principal.

You have never been shown how to rack a slide one-handed?

Not while fighting off an attacker. I'm sure it's quite easy sitting at home showing everyone but things get different when it gets real. If you can do it 100% then that's great. I wouldn't want to bet my life on it. What others do is their business. Survival is an art and not a science. Everyone looks at it differently.

There are numerous YouTube videos showing how to rack a pistol one-handed. Here's one that just taught me a new trick: [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7W7PzHroN4[/ame]

I've got nothing against one in the pipe. It's cocked and locked I don't feel comfortable with. That's one reason I do carry a revolver. Can somebody give me a link to a video showing how he racks the slide one handed while he's actually under attack and not just showing off for the camera. Everything is easy while your calm and in no danger. Every plan falls apart when the battle begins.

I pocket carry my CSX in C2. No worry about a misfeed (when racking from C3), but the gun is completely safe/inert until I cock that hammer.

Good article above with lots to think about. I would add that when the Army asked JMB to add the thumb safety, it wasn’t for C1… it was for safe reholstering one-handed on horseback.

Totally understand reluctance to carry in condition one. Training may overcome it but if not staying with a gun in which you have complete confidence may be better for you.

Cocked and locked - just like the striker-fired plastic guns that the rest of the world is so crazy about (eg. Glocks, P365, etc).

EXCEPT the SA is “locked”, the plastic guns aren’t🙄. Accidently pull the trigger on a cocked and locked SA and nothing happens, pull it on a plastic striker fired gun and bang, you just blew a hole in something😳.

ANY pistol should be ready to go with ONLY ONE HAND available - IMHO! While being attacked, you may not have the luxury of using a second hand! You may need it to defend yourself, to grab on to a support, open or close a door or whatever. Carrying a SA pistol without one in the chamber is just foolish in my opinion.

That said, if you really do not want to carry a SA with a round in the chamber, carry a DA revolver! At least it is ready to rock with one hand at all times. Yes you are sacrificing round capacity but at least it is ready with only one hand available.

I carry a Sig P365 with one in the tube but I do have the model with an external safety (did not originally). At least on the P365, the safety is effective and is easy to flick off and pull the trigger in one fluid motion. I know some dislike the external safety but it is still a one handed operation and adds just another layer of safety. On a striker fired and pocket carried (at least 1/2 the time) Micro pistol it just makes sense to me. IMO it does not slow you down after practice.

PS: I laugh at the guys who use a one handed cocking method by rapidly throwing the gun forward or using their belt to assist in a one handed cocking. Not only is this just another step but it may not actually be feasible. I'd like to see that work from a seated position in a car, tight place such as a crowded elevator, and certainly alerts everyone around you that you have a gun you're getting ready to shoot. Nope - clicking the manual safety to off is about to the extent I will go in the safety dept.

Of course it goes without saying, no matter what type and brand of gun you carry, constant weekly practice (even without live ammo) is the way to stay sharp.

Did they cut out the part where he's being assaulted while doing that?

No, they expect you to use hand to hand combat, albeit one-handed, as an option if circumstances warrant. Gun play gives you maybe 3 or 4 seconds. Run, hide, fight. One-handed racking would be done while hiding (taking cover).

If the aggressor is pressing an assault, you need to bring your A-game and attack the aggressor's vital areas and change their plan from attack to defend or retreat. You could use a instep heel stomp to shatter the many bones in the foot; palm strikes to the ears, nose, chin, throat, or eyes; hand or forearm strikes to the vulnerable spots, e.g., a brachial stun...

You do what you need to do to win even if you have to use your pistol as a club.
