Has anybody made auto rim from 45 Colt brass? I know the rim thickness is different. If they were cut down to 45 apc length so they head spaced on the mouth like an apc. Thanks.

.45 Colt brass + case trimmer + a little effort = shorter .45 Colt brass.
BUT, how are you going to crimp them???? You're going to need a die that will do it, either a cut off .45 Colt die, or one of the old .45acp seater dies with a roll crimp built into it.

It should work in theory. But then you'd have a small amount of unsupported case head sticking out at the rear of the cylinder. That would make me nervous more than anything else. Why not just use .45 ACP without the moonclips? I do that sometimes in the 625-4 and any sane load can be plucked right out with the fingernails.

I would suggest buying some third-moon clips. These make it easy to clip and unclip two .45 ACP cases with your fingers. Ranch Products has them.

People may consider them "pesky" but I sure would prefer using third-moon clips to the effort and uncertainty of converting .45 Colt for your purposes.

A lot of trouble resulting in very little benefit. Clips are not needed for nearly all M1917s, Colt or S&W. At least not for casual shooting where rapid unloading-reloading is not a consideration. I prefer the third moon clips.

Thanks . I have third clips. Just thought I would ask the question.
As of yesterday starline showed out of stock
The only way I can get brass is if I buy Buffalo Bore .I don't want to spend that much for 20 rounds.

The shortened case needs to headspace on the case mouth. Roll crimp will not work.

I broke down and purchased "factory" loads from Buffalo Arms - you may have to wait a while, and it is not cheap, but loaded to vintage specs. I used it in a shaved Webley .455. Worked like a charm, and the company is easy to work with, really helpful and nice people. Black Powder Shooting Supplies & Accessories

I suggest that you place an order with Starline. I’ve ordered at least 3 different “out of stock” case types over the past couple years and only 1 took more than a month to show up. My theory is that Starline sometimes shows items “out of stock” to discourage creeps who resell on GunJoker or EvilBay.

No.

I have two Reloading Stores in driving distance. When Starline dot Com shows out of stock I call either of my local shops and they have what I need. Just because Starline is out of stock it does not mean the "Reloaders World" is out of stock.

When I bought a 25-2 I got 100 pieces of auto rim and about a dozen moon clips. I load on a Forster press and found out that a special adapter was necessary for the auto rim so I tried the moon clips. Loved them. If you're interested in the brass let me know.

"All you need is an inexpensive Auto Rim shell holder."
NOT that simple! Forster is the old Bonanza single stage press and the shell holder is a complete set of "jaws" that need to be installed to load Auto Rim brass.
I have done it and just love using my Auto Rim loads in my 25-2.
