At the LGS today I saw this. It is a Pre 27 with a S/N of 102362. Locks up well, no end shake and the crane is not tweaked. I am not a expert on finish but I am guessing that it it about 90%. Not the original equipment grips, they are for a gun from the 95,000 range. Best guesses as to the value?

I have the same gun but a 27-2 3.5 inch, so not real sure if I want this one.

Last years Blue Book says a S serial number on a Post War, Pre-27 in 90% $1500 and add 100% if 3 1/2 inch bbl. 1947-1957. I bought my first one years ago and got it for $350, But at the symposium I picked up another for $1300 and the guy Immediately had sellers remorse. The symposium was great, I bought a triple lock, M-27, M-53 22 jet, 455 2nd model and a pistol I've spent 8 years looking for, a 952 in 9mm.

PS: Understand Blue book is just a guide and It is usually 6 months or so out of date when It is usually published. My new Pre 27 is in the 99,xxx Which puts it 1953-54 so the one you are looking at probably dates near that. Revolver probably was used in law enforcement and the grips probably got switched with another gun at that time. Pretty close in age with the gun you are looking at. If the price is right, grab it!

Agree but I think you need it. While the grips might not be 100% correct they look pretty good.

Thanks!
I don't want to be thought of as a hoarder. :D

$1200-$1500 might be conservative; the -2s are in that range now. I would expect to find it tagged higher where I shop although it might be possible to negotiate into that range.

I paid $1200 for this one refinished by the factory in 1982 five years ago. Paid too much then but it lettered as having been shipped to the Kansas City PD in 1950 so maybe not all that much too much. Good luck.

I'm pretty sure that one would have come home with me... but then again, I AM a hoarder of 3.5" 357 Magnums...:D

THe gun had just come in and the dealer had not figured out what he would ask for it. If I get it that is great, if I do not that is not so bad as I have a 27-2 3.5" already.

I am a accumulator, not a hoarder.....

Hopefully the dealer won't think that he has struck gold with that nice .357 Magnum, and that he'll put a fair price on it. If he does put a fair price on it (IMO under $2K), I'd grab it. I also own a couple of 3-1/2" Model 27-2s, but only one .357 Magnum (S140334; 6-1/2" bbl.). I'd love to have a 3-1/2" to go with it. Good luck!

You're correct, I underestimated, a tad. Nice -2s can bring
north of $2K for nickel or S serial numbers; average examples with N serial numbers are fetching $1200 to $1500+.

Well, if there is no rust or pitting, and everything is as it should be, I think it will go north of 1500, and in the 18-1900 dollar range. If it is offered in the 1500 range, snap it up
