.38 ammo prices!

What is "go scorched Earth"?

A thread about ammo prices inevitably turns into a poll about who reloads , etc. The original post wasn't about reloading but they can't help themselves . My comment about " going scorched Earth " means I would delete every post that even mentioned the word " reload " . Drastic ? Yeah , but a guy can dream .

Point taken.

But now that I've thought it over thoroughly sometimes the "I reload" posts are not so much proselytizing as they are taking a position of moral superiority.

Even within the reloaders, the "I have 10,000# of metal I got free and I bought all my components in 1964" posts are rather nauseating. Not to mention irrelevant.

From a personal position I will endeavour to not comment on reloading in the ammo forum. Because you are right. I'm sure it's annoying to many and really does belong in the reloading forum.

I also get the "moral superiority" vibe from these folks. When they go into the "I reload" response to an factory ammo retail price discussion, I keep hearing a little kid going "na na na na boo boo" in the background.

That's $20 for a box of 50 rounds. Expensive.

It depends on your Financial Status.

One reason I reload is my last Range Day I fired 250 rounds of .38 Special in three revolvers.

Of course the father and son in the lane next to me could not hit a target at seven yards with a .38 snubby. But at least they gave me the brass. (I doubt they can buy a case of ammo)

I don't reload , but in hindsight I should have started long ago . I shoot a lot of remanufactured ammo , mostly in 9mm and 45 . I have been doing this a long time and I've NEVER had a problem . I was looking at a bag of Georgia Arms 45 and the price was $10.50 so you can imagine when I bought that . I also buy it from Southern Munitions , great prices there . For new ammo , try Battle Hawk Armory . I heard about them here , and they have great prices in 10mm and 38Super . Whenever I find a deal , I load up . Recently I got a text from Battle Hawk and loaded up on 44mag .

I with you on 38/357 ammo prices. I love shooting my revolvers. I wanted to shoot my M60 j-frame. It was cheaper for me to buy a USED M43c and shoot .22LR. I purchased a used M340 M&P. I might just have to bite the bullet and buy a case of ball 38/357.

I have 2 in. "J" frames in .22 and center fire. I have 4 and 6 in. "K" frames in .22 and center fire. I shoot a few center fire cartridges and a bunch of .22s. .22s are cheaper than just the primers for center fire. Larry

People are buying more and more ammo every day.we are hedging because we have no clue if the local, city, state or federal governments will stop or limit civilian sales. That and the ban on Russian ammo and the increase of federal aid to other countries. Ammo companies have upped production but most of the runs are for popular rifle and pistol cartridges. 9mm, .40 S&aw is 10mm and .45 ACP. That leaves less time to produce revolver cartridges. Rifle shooters are facing the problem. 5.56 x 45 and 7.62 x 51, .300 Blackout etc. are being made but try and find .45-70. There are only so many ammo plants and we shoot a lot here. Plus we horde a lot as well because we are unsure if we can get more. Hand loaders are looking at massive increases and shortages in powder, new brass, projectiles and primers. Even black power shooters are feeling the pinch. The last U.S. company to make black powder went out of business a few years ago so again it's usually Swiss powder coming in and percussion caps are crazy expensive too.

^^^ This

I now am operating on the assumption that government, state or federal, is going to close the door next week if not sooner. The 3-day waiting period garbage was supposed to start here in Maine last Tuesday but is delayed for some reason until early August. Recently, I've come across 2 reputable online ammunition vendors who refuse to ship to Maine because of sales tax stunts the state pulled on them.

And then there are the "supply chain" issues. I think the last time I saw Winchester large rifle primers for sale was 5 years ago. Sometime in the past year I saw CCI #34s for sale and bought some despite the abusive price. My only regret is not buying more. Fortunately our 44th President taught me to buy more than I "need" when it's available.

How much you shoot annually and for how many years?

At one time my Police Department bought reloads for training and qualification day. So we get a variety of issues but the same goes for factory ammo too. But reloads has a higher probability of failures.

My local Target USA sells Ammo brand 38 special 138 g for 19.99 a box of 50. FMJ

Cheapest factory I've ever seen, and on the regular Range USA website it's up at $33.
I think it's a mistake that my local store is making, and I've asked them about it twice now and they say $19.99 is what it is.
I usually get a few when I'm in there Which is not very often as I'm not in town that much.

With this said, check out the Goodlettsville Tennessee range USA and ask them for the price of their 38 special Ammo that is out on the shelf.
I don't know what shipping would be, but it's 19.99 A box of 50

I make the same thing for $7 to $10 a box of 50. So I get two or three times more shooting.

That comes in handy if you take the "Defensive Revolver" course at Thunder Ranch. Course of fire is 1000 rounds or twenty boxes of 50.

Much of the time the big jump in price comes when you get a specialized 'defensive' bullet. Depending on the gun, I can get by with less than the fanciest bullet.

I bought a 327 Federal handgun the other week, ammo was $28 a box, not sure how many rounds. I didn't buy any, other methods to get ammo.

I try and " visit" a few Bass Pro's and Academy Sports every month to check prices and maybe pick up some reloading stuff. Ammo prices are just stupid crazy high. Will never darken the door of another sportsmans warehouse Ever as they are considerately Higher than the others. Looked in the Daytona Bass Pro yesterday and was shocked at higher prices on most certerfire pistol ammo. 45 Colt was around $70/50…..

Not exactly. A couple of years ago I posted a poll in this forum asking if people reloaded.

Do you reload?

The moderator moved it to the reloading forum because discussions about reloading belong in the reloading forum.

Reloaders are going to talk about how great reloading is because they huge fans of it and want to share. Which is what most of us are doing on this forum, just not about reloading. Its not like they are trying to annoy us by cluttering up ammo threads with reloading posts even though that is the result.

Now days I have the same attitude about reloading posts I do with people at work that go on and on about some sport or sports team I care nothing about. Which is all of them. I ignore them unless someone directly addresses me. And if they do directly address me I tell them I am not a sports fan and and we both move on. Although some of the reloaders here are having a hard time moving on after being repeatedly told we have no interest in reloading.
