I will step up on my soap box for a minute and hope I do not commit any infractions by my comments:
Any death is sad to me - more so violent death and on top of that death of a Law Enforcement Officer. This death of an off duty Chicago Corrections Officer during a robbery at a gas station is especially appalling. He was sitting in a car while his friend was pumping gas. This offender should have been in prison and not out committing violent crimes. He had been released after serving one year of an 8 year sentence for felony gun charges. He was armed with an illegal handgun converted to full auto and equipped with a drum magazine. I am sure the media will twist it to be about gun control not the liberal justice system failing to lock violent criminals away. All these new gun laws not enforced, prosecuted or properly punished. What is the point? Another senseless death.

Correctional Officer Rafael Wordlaw, Cook County Sheriff's Office - Department of Corrections, Illinois

There’s nothing that I can say without getting into trouble

Chicago was safer when Al Capone was there. And I certainly can’t say anything about who was recently running this city. Yeah, I better stop now while I’m ahead.

It sickens me to see how many violent criminals are released back on the streets in such a short amount of time. There is no longer any real deterrent, or threat of punishment that makes them think twice before acting.

If we can't come up with more aggressive Prosecutors and Judges in short order, we are doomed to suffer even more of the same type of crimes, all over the country. They no longer fear the Law of the Land I'm afraid.

Pray and Vote. And Pray some more!

Chicago Heights? sad tragic killing of this Officer. Spent much time in that area when good ole Jane was mayor. Would not go back theses days if had paid trip. The museums there used to be fantastic….. and the food.

Local news reported that the "good boy-who-had some bad breaks but was getting his life together" tried several hospitals before he found one that would take him. I'd comment, but I like it here.

Breaks my heart. There is a 600lb. gorila in the room. RIP

Decent people should leave these cities.

Then we wall them off like Escape from LA and Escape from NY.

There is also not enough LE these days. Normal citizens should just be able to take out the trash and get a medal or a wall plaque. Just saying...

We don't need more of this trash in prison, we need more in the ground. Crime is like a cancer. Unabated, it spreads.

This is the results of America going too soft.

I have a patch on my AR bag that says, "Make America Violent Again" (in reference to not being so soft and taking out the bad guys). Zero F's given.

The news article said NOTHING about the Feds stepping in with gun charges. At the very least: unlawful possession by felon, possession of unlicensed firearm, unlawful conversion of a firearm.

I could go on.....RIP to the good officer & friend who tried to help.

The dead Corrections Officer was raised by his aunt. I bet there is a story about a kid who had a harder childhood than most but nevertheless made something of himself.

RIP Officer Our foreign adversaries are watching us self-destruct. The sub-cultures are in control of all large cities in this country and LE has no support from the elected officials placed there by "defund the police" liberal types and most incarceration sites are run by the inmates not the CO's. "The Mayor Of Kingstown" is far from being fiction and NYC's DOC Rikers Island is an example. Our society is in ruins.
