We got a new dog yesterday from the Houston Doberman Rescue. Her name is Beth, and she is a black and tan Dobie. She is estimated to be between 4-5 years old. She has been a mama at one time. She was found wandering in a state park near Houston. Apparently she had been dumped there. She has a very sweet and friendly disposition, but obviously has never had any obedience training, that will change in a few days after she gets more used to her new home.

We love her already, and think she will be a good replacement for our last Dobie. It has been over two weeks since Sam went over the Rainbow Bridge, and we have realized how lonesome it can be without a Dobie.

Every dog or cat we've ever owned was a rescue.

Our current cat (Mutt) slept in the back seat of my car at work for a year before I could bring her home.

Rescue pets know they've been rescued. They tend to be grateful for the rest of their lives.

We had a doberman growing up, appropriately named “Sissy.”

She was scared to death of ceiling fans when they were on. My parents got ceiling fans installed in almost every room in the house but the bathrooms. This is how we discovered Sissy’s fear of ceiling fans.

I would turn on every fan in the house. Sissy would make a mad dash down the hall (with no fans) then run in the bathroom and jump in the bathtub! That became her favorite sleeping spot.

And yes I deserved every whipping I received as a youngin!

Well these are my latest acquisitions

Both our dogs are rescues. The first one, who we adopted 11 years ago now (dang, it's been that long?) is Reno, who was a pup when we adopted him. This is him about 10 years ago: think this plus 10 years of life. :D

And our second rescue is a female we got around 4-5 years ago and she came from rather traumatic circumstances and her name is Lilly. She had been rescued from some old guy who was an animal hoarder and had her along with several other dogs and numerous cats. He evidently also had mistreated her badly and when my daughter adopted her, her poor spirit was pretty much broken and she totally hated me. It took her around 3 months before she started trusting me enough to try to be my friend and since then decided that I would be her human. ;) We've now had her around 4 years or so and estimate her age around 9 or so. This pic was taken earlier this year after I had let her out of the house to do her business during a real rainy stretch and she decided to be a goober and mimic a hog and rooted in the mud. It took 20 minutes of cleaning her up before I could let her back in the house.
