I'm 6'5", close to 300#'s and I occasionally take long trips with a bunch of gear/passengers. Modern cars don't work for me.

My last three vehicles were F150's and all had a V8, 4 wheel drive and a 36 gallon gas tank. I keep them for a while and live in Michigan where the winters can be rough. I get the retiree discount and trade them in before they're too old and the mileage gets over 100K.

This was my 2011...

This was my 2018. Someone dented my bumper and that would have cost me $1500 to replace. The tires and brakes would have needed service before winter and the transmission shifted hard before it warmed up. I loved that truck, but it was time to go. I didn't want to put $3K+ into it.

This is my new late release 2024. I don't know how long Ford will offer a conventional V8, so I bit the bullet. With all the electronics, I bought an 8 year expended warranty. This thing is a beast!

Sold my 2011 f150 w v8 to my neighbor. Bought a 2024 f150 w v8. Love the sound and power. Why own a full size truck w a small engine? Hope this new one gives as good service as the old one did.

Batmobile No. 1 is a 2019 Ford Taurus Limited. I grabbed it just before all the craziness started with high prices and short supply of everything. Batmobile No. 2 is a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis. I bought that while I was still working. The prior owners were an older (than me) couple who had traded it in so they could buy another similar car that was newer. I trade off driving them, usually 2 weeks for the Mercury and 1 week for the Ford.

My job provides me a take home car, so in my case daily driver is a relative term. When I’m not working my daily driver is primarily a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor with the Street Appearance Package. I bought it from the county in 2012, it had been the Sheriff’s take home car. Since the Vic has over 200,000 miles now I bought a 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis LS with 59,000 miles to share the work. Nothing will ever beat the Ford/Lincoln/Mercury Panther platform sedans.

The only new cars I would consider are the F-150 or the Explorer. My take home car is a police model Explorer, it’s been a good and trouble free vehicle. My brother has an F-150, and anything that can endure my brother has to be a good vehicle.

I drive a 2022 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab. 310 hp conventionally aspirated V6, it'll smack my head against the headrest If I"m not careful when the light turns green. 9 speed trans gives me 23 mpg combined city/hiway driving, about 7 mpg better than my 2010 Silverado. 1st non US brand (it was made in Miss) and I'm convinced. Apparently Nissan is too, the Titan is done with the 2024 model year. Joe

Beautiful truck, Chad, and given your height and where you live, it sounds like the perfect vehicle for you.

I saw the odometer in my 2013 VW Golf R turn 218,000 miles today. I went for a test drive on Black Friday in 2012, just for the heck of it, and bought it immediately. All-wheel-drive, six-speed standard transmission, 256 horsepower, and gets about 30 mpg in highway driving if I take it easy.

It's never stranded me, and has needed only a couple of minor repairs over the years. Still has the original clutch and CV joints, etc.

I'm 6'3", and it fits me perfectly. It has reasonable room for four adults, and I can carry a surprising amount of luggage or gear in the rear compartment. I've had more than 20 cars in 55 years of driving, and never kept a car more than 7 years/125,000 miles until now. I'll keep this Golf forever, and I tell people that if it could cook, I would marry it... :)

My daily hack is a BMW 328d, where d means turbo-diesel. The thing makes about 280 ft lbs of torque, so with the turbo it has utter disdain for elevation changes. It'll make 45 mpg or more sitting at a sensible speed on the cruise control. It has a 15.5 gallon tank, and this led to the car gaining a graphic nickname, 'Destroyer of Bladders'.

'Destroyer of Bladders'.

My motorcycle has a comfortable range of 150 miles between gas stops. Something about the bike seat causes my bladder to shrink to the size of a shotglass. At 150 miles, I don't care if the gas station has gas, as long as they have a restroom. More than once, I have been forced to pull over and "check on the crops" only to find them insufficiently irrigated.

On a trip to Germany back in 2014, my rental car was a BMW 320D station wagon...what a great car! It carried me and a traveling companion, all of our luggage for a 2-week+ trip, easily maintained Autobahn speeds, and got decent mileage to boot. :)

My daily is a 2018 Toyota Tundra, 5.7 V-8 4 wd, 34 gallon tank. According to the window sticker, its original delivery destination was Dover International Speedway. It was a NASCAR parade truck that the drivers stand in the back of to wave to the crowd. They were sponsored by a local Toyota dealer that afterwards sold them on the lot. Mine is the blue one with cap added, the red one shows what it looked like when I first saw it, covered in the NASCAR stickers. I wanted to keep them, but it wasn’t allowed as they were temporary and would soon disintegrate in the weather.

If you take care of them those big old V-8 Ford products will seemingly run forever. I had a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis that was my first ever brand new car. The last 13 years I was working I had a 35-45 mile commute one way. When it started getting tough to get some parts I put that car through the Gettysburg Auto Auction. That car had 238,000 miles on it, and a dealer from Baltimore came up and bought it.

My daily driver is a late 90s CrownVic. It's a cream puff. Really no major problems for a 25 year old car. It's coming due for a major service though.

I'll never buy a new car. I'm causally looking for a low milage CrownVc LX Sport or a Merc GrndMrqs LSE for sale locally so I can see it in person. I did find a Merc Marauder, but it had been hit at some point and had bad bodywork/paint.

I like the Panthers, they handle pretty good considering their size, get decent gas milage and they are bullet proof with regular maintenance. The problem is that nice ones are getting hard to find.
