Your Daily Driver...

Those old V8's were the bomb. I drove Old Blue for 24 years and 460,000 miles on a 5.3L. I got like clockwork 18 miles per gallon with a 42 gal tank and it towed all my boats. Broke my heart to let her go, but it was time. Got the last year Toyota used the naturally aspirated V6 for the Tacoma and for the very first time I got a tricked out 4WD-not the pro but the one under it, the Off Road.
LOVE that little truck!!! And it can safely navigate the wilds of various parking lots, like the COSTCO and Tractor Supply with panache! ;)

My wife has a 2016 Toyota Rav 4 with 80,000 miles on it and I have a 2015 Toyota Camry with less than 75,000 miles.
Both vehicles are paid for , well maintained and in very good condition and should be good for another 100,000 miles at a minimum .
I'd like a pick up truck only I would get a midsized rather than a full sized model ...but I like my paid for Toyota's more .

I bought my first 4wd truck in 1973 and have been driving them ever since. My latest is a 2018 Colorado bought new. Currently has 60k on it. I looked at new ones this year and didn't like them (not to mention the price), so I decided to keep on driving it for a while.

I bought this 1997 Cougar XR7 new for my wife. 4.6 V8. The last of the rear wheel drive V8 boulevard cruisers. She recently turned over 90k. Of course I had to install a hipo chip in it. Lots of fun to drive but a little hard for me to get in and out of these days.

Always have had at least one 4X4 type vechicle since 1970!

Due to circumstances I sold my last Vette a few years ago. Of course this was a 3rd vechicle and only was used in about 6 months of the year.:)

Went and bought a new small Jeep (Islander) in 2021. I wanted a 3rd vechicle with 4WD so I could use year around. Wrote a check as I had the money from the Vette sale. Considering the times I got as good of a deal as possible at the Jeep stealer ship.

First thing I did was remove the back seat as there never will be 3 in it at the same time. Being the Jeep was a 2 door with seat out I could put in cased rifles and my skeet guns and other items in the back, Sometimes the wife and I go shopping and there is room for groceries in the back, but she prefers to take her Ford SUV most times.

For bigger/bulkier stuff like firewood, lumber, 4X4ATV or pulling a trailer my older 96 Tundra 4X4 does the work and also has a plow to battle the upstate NY winters. Its plated and I can also use it as a DD if necessary!

I've seen your truck a few times (very nice), but had no idea you had two Undercover SwingCases in the back. Cool!

I opted for an Undercover UltraFlex folding tonneau cover instead of a cap this time. I found out after I bought it that the manufacture is offering a free SwingCase when you buy an UltraFlex in August. The dealer didn't know about the offer and I stumbled across the info online while looking at the cases. My rebate form is already submitted/approved and I'm waiting for it to show up. They go for about $200, so that was a nice suprise.

Let's see . . . spend $3000 to fix everything wrong with the truck or $50,000+ for a new one??????????
With my trade-in, I walked out paying just under $32K. I could have waited a few more years, but I was afraid the 5.0L V8 wouldn't be available then.

We have no children, no debt and don't have an expensive lifestyle. When the Mrs and I pass, our estate gets divvied up between our six siblings. We love 'em, but not enough to do without the things we want. ;)

Bought my 2009 F-150 crew cab 4 WD new , and has been a rust free { Arizona truck } and trouble free vehicle since new . Has only 46,744 original miles so I see no reason the spend a wad of dough on a new over priced truck ....she's a keep er !

"My" vehicle is my Ram 3500, though we often take "her" Grand Cherokee if just running around town.

My other runabout, though not really a daily driver is my 1996 BMW 320i Touring. BWM didn't bring the wagons to the US until the later body style in 2001, and this one was imported from Germany in 2022.

I drove whatever they gave me the keys to for 33 years, while the family got a succession of new SUVs and vans.

When I retired the job wanted their ride back. I bought a 2000 Explorer for cash, drove that until it the transmission gave out, then wrote a pretty small check for my current whip, a 99 two door 2WD with a stick shift and a good sound system. Going on two years now, only 140K on it so it might last til they start hiding the keys from me.

My wife still drives a new car, but I’m fine with whatever.

My daily driver is a late 90s CrownVic. It's a cream puff. Really no major problems for a 25 year old car. It's coming due for a major service though.

I'll never buy a new car. I'm causally looking for a low milage CrownVc LX Sport or a Merc GrndMrqs LSE for sale locally so I can see it in person. I did find a Merc Marauder, but it had been hit at some point and had bad bodywork/paint.

I like the Panthers, they handle pretty good considering their size, get decent gas milage and they are bullet proof with regular maintenance. The problem is that nice ones are getting hard to find.

I suspect those who have them are planning to keep them. My 2008 Grand Marquis only has 159,000 miles on it. They will probably have to pry my cold dead hands from the steering wheel.

The only new cars I would consider are the F-150 or the Explorer. My take home car is a police model Explorer, it’s been a good and trouble free vehicle.
Nice! The older Explorer Interceptors with the conventionally-aspirated V6's are rated at 365HP. New ones have a 400HP twin-turbo.

Mrs Chad has a 4WD 2018 Explorer with the naturally-aspirated 3.5L V6 that's rated at 290HP. She has less than 40,000 miles on it and loves it.

I looked at new ones when I was at the dealership. They only offer turbo's now and I'm not a fan. Mechanics I've talked to don't recommend them if you plan on keeping the vehicle for an extended time. They're OK if you lease or get a new vehicle every few years, but replacement of EcoBoost twin turbo's can get very pricy.

Have Ford US finally learned how to fit the interior pieces? Buddy bought a new one about 8 years ago but had to hunt around the lot to find one with an acceptable interior. Five years ago one of the other contractors where I worked bought a new Explorer as their company hack. The interior should have been stripped and reassembled properly, it was awful. The chisel front (Gen 10, I believe) F150s I was driven around in when I first got here were way better assembled. I reckon Ford lost the plot somewhere in the 2000s trying to feed the 4x4 and truck frenzy.

Funny thing is Ford UK had a reputation for making the nicest and best screwed together interiors for as long as I can remember. I had numerous Fords as rentals back there, and they were solid.

I agree that modern cars just don't work for me as well, but a half-ton pickup truck won't really cut it either. For me it's been 3/4-ton diesel pickups because of our travel trailer.

My current ride is a 2024 Chevy 2500HD crew cab in LTZ trim, Duramax diesel and 10-speed Alison tranny. I also sprung for the 8-year warranty because there is so much electronics, and I know that even the smallest problem could end up costing a bunch. I usually keep my trucks for an average of 10 years.

Here's mine... :D

My daily ride is a 2024 Chevy High Country, 6.2 liter power plant.
It took over the daily responsibilities from a 2019 Tahoe, 5.3 power plant. Difference is greater then I expected.

I drive a '23 GMC 1500 Sierra Denali. It sports the 6.2 V8 and the rest of the trinkets to make life behind the wheel enjoyable. I traded my wife's '19 Tahoe on a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. It too has most every imaginable creature feature, but it could use another inch or so of door clearance into the cabin. It will give you a headache if you get in too fast!

My '18 was nice, but the 2024 blows it out of the water. It's extremely comfortable, very quiet and has lots of well thought-out features and storage space. There's no rattles or squeaks and it rides like a luxury car. There's two glove boxes, a center console and a folding lockable storage bin under the rear seats. Mine has the "Office package", which gives you a fold-out desk on top of the console. I added a driver seat cover, a CD player in the console and a fold-up crate from Costco to the back seat for hauling groceries.
