We had raccoons trying to get in our chicken coop,,
I came up with what be pretty close to the ULTIMATE way to catch them,,
We have a wire dog box,, extremely large from when we owned a Great Dane dog,,
I put a roost hanging in the cage,, then put a chicken in the dog box,
each night the chicken sat safely on the roost. If the chicken had been off the roost, the raccoons KNOW how to scare a chicken, make it run to the other side of the coop, and ANOTHER raccoon is waiting there to grab the chicken.
Our first batch of chickens were pulled through the wire on their coop when we went away for three days,,
We came back to wings and feathers all over the coop wire,,
YOU GOTTA HAVE A ROOST!!
Well, Hav-A-Hart traps look almost identical to the construction of the dog box.
We put two Hav-A-Hart traps wired up against the dog box,,
The raccoons were convinced the Hav-A-Hart traps were the entrance to get the chicken.
I caught 23 raccoons in 21 days,, it eradicated the neighborhood.
I have to "RE-TRAP" the raccoons every two or three years.
The Hav-A-Hart traps work on groundhogs if you use apples or oranges as bait in the trap.
