Desserts, What Say You?

I miss the days of childhood and church potluck suppers. The ladies back then could really cook. Now a days most desserts come from Walmart. My favorite would be cherry cheesecake.

grew up in Texas and my Uncle had thousands of acres which he grew wheat. However he saved a couple acres for Rhubarb and black eyed peas for my Aunt. Loved her Rhubarb pie with no strawberries allowed in it. This after a good meal including fresh black eyed peas. Been 70 years but I still miss her cooking.

Sweet tooth, I have 32 of em. :D
Any fruit pie ala mode, except strawberry rhubarb.
Tapioca pudding - fresh
Most cakes
Warm brownie with hot fudge, vanilla ice cream
Ice cream
Yada, yada, yada

My number one is pecan pie. I also enjoy a good key lime pie and the occasional brownie. Almost forgot since it's so hard to find, but a good Mexican fried ice cream is right up there with the best desserts money can buy. I'm talking a big ball of vanilla ice cream coated in corn flakes, flash fried, and served in a tortilla bowl with caramel sauce and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Not the ice cream burritos most Mexican places call fried ice cream.

I grew up enjoying a sort of buttermilk chess type pie my family called Jeff Davis pie. I don't have the recipe to make it myself, so I haven't had that in many years.

All the above.

I never met a dessert I didn't like. However, three months ago I gave up desserts, sweet snacks, sweet treats and refined sugar.

I have dropped 17 lbs.

Beer is a perfect dessert substitute.

I have two favorite desserts.

Creme brulee

Tiramisu

However they are made and varied, I just love them.

How about it? What's your favorite two or three?

Or none?

Funny, I ate at a local Italian restaurant last night and they didn't have Tiramisu so I went with the creme brulee. Each is great, but I think one of the reasons creme brulee is so popular is that they never give enough. Three scoops and you're done.

Bread pudding or Rum cake with Hard Sauce is pretty good too.

Too many to list.

As far as cheesecake, non better anywhere than S&S.

Cheesecake and Nacho's are the only 2 items I know how to make incredibly well (in the kitchen)! I am OK at omelets too, but not nearly as good as my cheesecake. Anything else is left up to the Mrs. I will put my Cheesecake up against anyone's, but I will take you at your word that S&S is terrific. I grew up in Brooklyn and Queens but have never heard of S&S. I've had professional Baker's ask me for my recipe - nope! It took me 10 years to perfect! :D So far the second best I've had is from Peter Luger's Steak House in Brooklyn. If anyone wants a descent quality (not the best, but very good) at an incredibly great price = Costco's Cheesecake.

These days I have focused my culinary skills on my outdoor kitchen. The specialty of the house is Ribeye steaks.

I try to deprive myself of sweets so when I do eat them, they taste so much better and I appreciate them more.

I love prune pies or empanadas topped with cinnamon and sugar, baked in a horno. Biscochitos, sugar cookies, are top of my list. I do love pecan pies, too. Bear claws, yeah, them, too!

My mom makes a delicious fruit salad. I can make it, too, but mine never tastes as good as her's - probably because she made it with her love. Nothing like mom's love!

My favorite is egg custard.

It's a close variation of your favorites

Mostly the Amish make it around here.

Second is a great homemade rice pudding with lots of custard on the top crust.
