This morning, I may have found my holy grail gun.
Two owners, pre-29, in the original case with original tools. In the box is the information about the original owner. As the story go's the seller bought it from the original owner's widow, he has now fallen on hard times and needed to reduce his private collection.

Gun is in great condition, the blue/black case is nearly perfect condition, as are the tools.

Can anyone provide me with a shipping date. Hoping it's a birth year gun, maybe even birth month. As far as I can tell it may have shipped late 1956, early 1957. Yes, I will letter it as confirmation. to excited to wait for it.
Serial number is S 153639. Won't have it in hand until required waiting period

Sweet, 2 years, 12 handguns latter, still searching for my grail gun. Actually a H&K P7 would fit the bill but I’m an one gun guy and it’s a little big for my 5’6” frame.

Nice, it may well have shipped in 1956 but you're going to need a letter to know for sure. As Wiregrassguy's examples indicate they didn't ship in order. A benefit of being a SWCA member is that the good Dr. Jinks will give you a ship date (month and year) for free. With a fine example of a grail gun you probably should be a member. I have S161859 which shipped in November of 1956.

Congrats, very nice. I recently lettered S153063. Shipped December 14, 1956. Five 44 Magnums on the invoice. The other numbers S154210, S154486, S159848 and S153069. All of these were 4-inch guns.
From the threads I have read it seems shipping dates are all over the place. Some guns with very close numbers can be a year apart on ship date. In my example, guns more than 6000 numbers apart shipped on the same day.
I think you are right about 1956 or 1957 but no telling which one until you get the letter.

That's a beautiful set, congratulations! I don't believe that those are the original tools and the cleaning rod is missing. But I could be mistaken and one of our gurus will correct me! I only have one early .44 Magnum...a blued 4-screw with 6-1/2" bbl. It's probably my favorite revolver of my modest co!!ection. Enjoy!

The wood used in those stocks is so light in color they look like walnut, which is not unheard of but a bit unusual I believe. They are probably made from a light colored piece of GA. Waiting for more pictures when you have it in hand.

Hawg rider,
The cleaning rod was under the interior with the brush attached. Didn't find it until after the picture was taken. As far as originality I don't know for sure. Would seem odd for one of the first two owners to swap out the tools for similar ones, but anything is possible.

PS: 71 FX Super Glide shovelhead, 90 FLHS

Glad you have the rod and brush. It was the sight adjustment tool (SAT) that looked like a later version, but maybe not. We have SAT experts that can chime in.

P.S.: Still riding a 2011 Road Glide Ultra. Started riding when I was 20...50 years ago!

ago!

Hawg Rider,

While I don't consider myself one of the SAT Experts...I will note the SAT included with (walekhntr's) Revolver "Is" Correct...Just thought I'd pass that along so you knew for certain!!
