Looking into the newly available [in california] M&P 2.0 models and did some comparing online.

Can anyone tell me why the M&P 2.0 9 subcompact weighs 3.3oz more than the 'original' M&P 9c [gen 1]? I did see that the 2.0 has a .1" longer barrel- but 1/10 of an inch won't add 3.3oz.

This just boggles my mind.

And yes, i am comparing no thumb safety models to each other, so one having it and the other not isn't an issue.

Comparing full size versions, there's some extra metal inside the frame along the underside of the barrel. I don't know if the 2.0 subcompact is the same. The slide lock is also different. But I don't know if it adds weight.

With out weighting both old and new models on a scale in front of your assuming the specs shown me be with a mag in the pistol and with out mag . That will make your difference in weight. Maybe !

Sorry but I'm not seeing the 2.0 Subcompact listed on the roster. I see the Compact (4") and the Full (4.25").

As mentioned above, the 2.0 has a reinforced frame, a new style slide catch (more metal parts) and a different trigger system. Does that add up to precisely 3.3oz? Have no clue. Where did you get your weights?

S&W's website weights are a bit odd.

The 3.6" 2.0C is listed as weighing 25.8 oz, 0.1 oz more than the 4.0" 2.0C. Now, it's possible that they added mass to the shorter slide for added reliability, but that still seems odd.

The 3.6 2.0C is also obviously incorrectly listed at 15.77 oz on the S&W LE website. Probably a typo.

FWIW, my LE box 4.0" 2.0C optics ready weighed in at 22.95 oz without a magazine and 25.75 oz with a magazine.

The 2.0 Subcompact is listed at 25 oz the regular site and 24.9 oz on the LE site, which seems plausible with the magazine in.

You must be looking at a different M&P Pistol site as they still show the M&2.0 9mm SC - Link below .
