I need help I'ding a barrel. Its labeled a 41 mag on the right side. Left side has the old (&)symbol and is nickle plated...looks factory nickle. Also has the old style front sight that is seperate and 2 pins IMG_5712.jpg.The serial number is in the groove as pictured. My research indicates model 57's serials started in or about 1964. This one goes back to about 1955....if this was a N series wouldnt it have the later symbol?? and no serial number at all? any help is apreciated There seems to be some confusion....I want to apologize for that....This is JUST a BARREL...there is NO FRAME!! it was removed from a frame it didnt belong on....sorry for the confusion....thank you

The only definitive location for the serial number is on the bottom of the grip frame. You will likely have to remove the grips.

The serial number S224014 would date to 1962 and the revolver would have a 4-screw frame as the 3-screw frame did not appear until around S227150. There are no 4-screw Model 57s. The serial number in the extractor rod shroud is not the serial number of the revolver. S224014 is a Highway Patrolman with a 4-inch barrel and blue finish. The type of ampersand on the barrel first appeared in 1963 and was used until the very early 1970s. Why the number is there is anyone's guess.

Bill,Mike and others...Im going to take a better pic and post it..give me a minute...thanks

N124814 would date to 1974. The number may have been stamped in the extractor rod shroud if the revolver was refinished in nickel or had a change of finish to nickel.
