It's been out of hand for a while!
'The OIG estimated that more than $200 billion ($136 billion in COVID-19 EIDL loans and $64 billion in PPP loans) of the $1.2 trillion in COVID-19 loan funds was disbursed in potentially fraudulent loans, representing about 17% of all funds.Nov 4, 2024'

They've pinched quite a few for it in Vegas. A string of murders here was linked to one scheme.

A friend who was a small business owner participated in this program. While compiling his records he discovered a former office manager had embezzled around a quarter million dollars.

From him or the government? What was the final result?

Last year I received notice that I was overdue on my payments for a COVID small business loan. It only took me a couple of weeks and filling out some documents online through a couple of federal agencies to get it cleared up and to get a fraud alert posted to the credit reporting agencies. Now if I apply for a loan the lender has to take extra steps to verify who I am (which I'm OK with).

My only aggravation is that the feds won't let me know who used my identity.
